After the bath, I walked downstairs, still floating in the clouds after Jay's proposal. My heart was soaring, and I couldn't contain the joy bubbling inside me. Grinning like a fool, I hugged everyone downstairs and flaunted the diamond ring on my finger with giddy excitement. I must've looked childish, even silly—but I didn't care. I'd waited so long for this moment. Too long.
Everyone shared my happiness, especially Leah. She wrapped me in a tight hug and whispered, "I prayed for this every day... for you two to find your way back to each other." Her words warmed my heart.
Later, while walking in the garden, Isabel approached me.
"Congrats, Jessy. I'm happy for you," she said with a soft smile.
"Thank you, Isabel." I reached out and took her hands, looking into her eyes with genuine gratitude. "If not for you... Jay and I wouldn't be together now. Thank you for never taking advantage of his kindness."
She gave a small, bittersweet smile. "It's okay. I loved him truly... but it was unrequited. I've accepted that. I believe I'll find someone who's right for me one day."
"I'll pray for you," I said gently, and she nodded.
Meanwhile, Fin and I were watering the flowers as Julissa played with Hart—Jay's loyal dog, the same one who had once saved me. Hart seemed to remember me well and had quickly grown attached to Ju. Andrew had taken Tilly to visit his university, giving her a little tour before she officially started classes next week.
While I watered the plants, I noticed Ju signaling toward someone behind me. A strong scent of Jay's cologne reached me.
So, he wants to play?
Grinning to myself, I spun around and sprayed him with the garden hose before he could lay a hand on me.
"Damn!" Jay groaned, now dripping wet.
"Serves you right!" I stuck out my tongue and laughed.
"Oh, you're in trouble now," he warned, rolling up his sleeves and approaching. I dropped the hose and dashed away, laughing as Hart ran beside me like he was part of the chase.
"Hart, stop her!" Jay commanded.
Hart suddenly cut me off and sat in front of me like a blockade. I skidded to a stop just in time, nearly tumbling—only for Jay to catch me from behind.
"Oh no, Jay, let me go!" I squirmed in his arms.
"Haha! Mommy lost!" Julissa cheered, jumping up and down.
"Wow, thanks for the support," I groaned.
Without warning, Jay dropped me into the fish pond with a loud splash.
"Damn you, Jay!" I spluttered, glaring at him while Ju and Jay high-fived each other.
Then Fin snuck up behind Jay and pushed him into the pond too.
"Sorry, brother. I'm on Jessy's side," he said with a wink.
"Yes! High five, Fin!" I called out, exchanging invisible slaps from across the water.
Julissa jumped in happily, splashing both of us. The poor fish swam frantically to get away.
"You guys are such kids," Isabel said with a chuckle, shaking her head. "Come on, dry off before you catch a cold."
Afterward, I asked Leah to take Julissa back to the room. She grinned at me knowingly.
"Don't worry, girl. I got Ju. You go handle... Mr. Big-Ass."
"Oh God, Leah!" I blushed hard.
"Go, go," she said, laughing as she shooed me off.
I snuck into Jay's room, certain he'd be on his way soon. Hiding in the bathroom, I stripped and wrapped a towel around me, positioning myself behind the shower curtain.
