JESSY POV
I stormed into the coffee shop, already knowing exactly where to find her. As expected, she was at her usual spot, happily munching on a slice of cake.
"Julissa," I scolded, exasperated.
"Here comes the devil," she mumbled with a shrug. I pinched her ear, and she groaned in pain.
"Oh, Mom, please..."
"How could you eat here instead of at my shop?" I pouted. "Traitor."
"I was just checking out their recipe," she replied innocently.
"Hahaha... Jessy, I thought you were pissed because she ran away from her tuition class," Mr. Watt, the shop manager—and my business rival—chuckled from beside me.
"Oh! Speaking of which... Damn you, Ju. Why did you terrify your teacher like that?" I shook my head in disbelief. "You bullied her!"
"Mom, she's a bitch."
"JU!" I gasped. I had no idea where she learned that word—probably from that little menace Tilly. That girl's influence is getting out of hand. I'm definitely going to strangle her later.
"Fine, sorry..." Julissa huffed. Then she smiled sweetly and added, "Come on, Mom. She acts like she's the prettiest girl in the world. But little does she know my mom is the prettiest woman alive."
My heart melted. "Hehehe... Isn't that right?" I grinned. "I know I'm pretty."
"Indeed, darling," Mr. Watt said, smiling warmly. He's always been like a father to me, especially after Grandma passed away two years ago. That loss was devastating. If not for her, I wouldn't even be here. She and her granddaughter, Tilly, took me in when I was stranded and broken. They never judged my past—just gave me warmth, taught me how to bake cupcakes, and supported me.
They were shocked when they found out I was pregnant. But unlike my own family, who disowned me, they showed me what real love was. I thank God every day that I didn't go through with an abortion. If I had... she wouldn't be here—Julissa. My daughter. My only reason to live.
"Jessy, I need 50 cupcakes for my housewarming party this weekend," Mr. Watt said.
"Done, Mr. Watt," I winked. "And what's the password?"
"Nincompoop!" he declared proudly.
"Yeah!" I held out my palm, and he high-fived it.
"Jeez... childish," Julissa muttered, shaking her head like a grown-up. Sometimes I really wonder if she's just five. Most people say she acts more mature than her age. She's strong-willed and doesn't bend easily.
"Here you gooo!" I picked her up bridal style and kissed her all over her face. She giggled uncontrollably.
"M... Mom!"
"Say the password," I teased between kisses.
"I love you, you love me, Mom is great!!" she sang.
I paused and smirked. "You lost. I win."
"Gosh! Just wait till I get my chance," she pouted cutely.
I smiled at her reaction, heart full.
"Jessy-sis!" Tilly burst into the shop. "A new movie's coming out! Wanna join?"
"Nope. Work first. I have too many customers today," I said firmly.
"Ughh... Don't even mention your cooking," she groaned. "People only like your cupcakes, not your other dishes."
