We've all heard tales of brides fleeing the altar... but what if it's the groom who disappears, leaving behind a heartbroken bride with shattered dreams and unanswered questions?
On what was supposed to be the happiest day of her life, her groom van...
Since I suggested a family dinner, Jay agreed to come home early. In the meantime, I helped Leah in the kitchen—but of course, she didn't let me actually cook. I ended up stuck with the vegetables, which earned me endless teasing from Andrew, Finlay, and Tilly. I laughed along despite the mockery. Somehow, amidst the chaos, we still managed to prepare a colorful feast.
Tanya and Emanuel helped too, quietly and diligently.
"Mmm... smells amazing," Dev said, stepping into the kitchen with Elina and their daughter in tow.
"W-Wow... I can't wait to taste all of this!" Isabel added, clearly impressed.
Dev and Andrew were busy setting up a large canopy tent on the back patio while the guards took turns joining the celebration. The atmosphere buzzed with laughter and warmth—but my heart tugged elsewhere.
Without anyone noticing, I quietly slipped away and headed upstairs.
Jay's bedroom door was slightly ajar. I peeked in and found him standing shirtless, freshly showered, combing his damp hair in front of the mirror. The simple sight of him made my heart flutter.
I crept in and gently wrapped my arms around his waist from behind.
"I missed you," I whispered against his back, resting my cheek between his shoulder blades. "So I came to meet you without anyone noticing."
"Aww... I missed you more, baby," he murmured, turning to face me. His hands clutched my hips, eyes warm and full of mischief. "Tell me the truth. Did you actually cook anything?"
"No," I pouted. "They wouldn't let me."
"Oh, thank God. Now I know heaven exists," he said with dramatic relief.
I smacked his chest, gasping. "You're the worst!"
"Well..." he pulled me closer, lips grazing mine, "I can be worse."
His kiss was urgent, hungry. I met him halfway, our lips moving in sync, our tongues tangling with practiced intimacy. His hands slid from my waist to my backside, gripping greedily, grounding me in the moment.
I'm his. Entirely. No one else will ever have me.

But then—
BANG!
A single gunshot echoed through the house.
I gasped, heart seizing. "Oh God..."
"Jessy, stay here. Don't move," Jay said quickly. "I'll check it out."
"Jay, wait—!"
But he was already gone.
Panic clawed at my chest. My mind raced as I stood alone in the room. Suddenly, the lights cut out. I was engulfed in darkness. My fingers fumbled for my phone—I turned on the flashlight and tried to steady my breath.
A cold voice whispered behind me, "Found you."
Before I could turn, something pressed against my nose. The world spun.
And then, everything went black.

"She took her," Holden said grimly.
Jay slammed his fist into the wall. "Dammit! I never should've left her alone—"
"Jay," Elina called, approaching him gently. "Isabel's okay. The doctors removed the bullet. She's safe now."
Jay rushed into Isabel's room. She sat against the headboard, pale but conscious, her arm wrapped in clean bandages.
"I—I'm sorry, Jay," she said, guilt heavy in her voice. "I should've stopped her. I should've screamed or something..."
"No. None of this is your fault," he assured, gripping her hand. "Just tell me what happened."
"I went into the kitchen for a pudding bowl. I felt something... like someone was hiding under the counter. When I bent down, I saw her. Aria. She pointed a gun at me before I could shout. I froze. She asked where Jessy was. I was so scared..."
Tears welled in her eyes. "I told her Jessy was upstairs. She marched me to the main switch and forced me to shut off the lights. I tried to stop her—I grabbed her arm—but she kicked me. The gun went off... it just grazed my arm, I think. She knocked me out after that. I'm sorry..."
"Shh, Isabel. You did more than enough. Just rest now, okay?" he whispered.
Outside, the tension was thick.
"She's clever," Dev muttered angrily. "She staged that attack to distract us while she took Jessy."
Jay's face was stone-cold. "I'm going to find her. I swear—Aria won't get away this time."
"CCTV is down," Holden reported grimly. "She must've gotten into the surveillance room. We're checking the backup systems now."
Jay's temper snapped. "How the hell did she walk in undetected?! What the fuck were the guards doing?!"
"Jay, breathe," Elina soothed. "Getting angry won't help Jessy."
Dev pulled Jay aside, voice low. "I hate to say this, but... are we sure Tanya and Emanuel aren't involved?"
Jay looked across the patio to where Tanya sat on a bench, visibly shaken, Emanuel close by.
"They were with us the whole time," Holden spoke up. "And I had a guy watching them since they arrived. He confirmed they weren't acting suspicious, and they didn't leave the group."
Dev sighed but didn't look convinced. "Still... I don't like this. Aria knew too much."
Jay's jaw tightened. "We don't have time for doubt. We need to find Jessy—fast."
