Even though I was officially Mr. Erickson's personal assistant now, I still helped Leah and Aria with the housework. It felt good — comforting, grounding. I'd started reconnecting with my family too. No more distance, no more shame — just warmth and love.

One afternoon, while I was mopping the hallway on the first floor, something suddenly dropped onto my shoulder. My heart jumped to my throat — a snake!?

"AHHH!" I screamed, flinging the mop away as I stumbled back.

Laughter echoed behind me.

"HAHAHA!" Fin and Andrew were doubled over, howling.

"What the heck—!" I stared at the 'snake' and realized it was rubber. My face turned red with rage. "You little monsters!"

I grabbed the mop stick and chased after them. They were fast — way too fast.

"Come back here, you brats!"

By the time I caught my breath, they'd disappeared down the hall. My hands rested on my knees as I panted. Then a wicked idea hit me. I grinned slowly. Time for revenge.

Mr. Erickson was upstairs in the swimming pool area, on a business call and looking sharp in his tailored suit. Hart, our adorable dog, was lying lazily nearby.

I approached him with a mug in hand. "Mr. Erickson, tea," I said sweetly.

He barely glanced at me, distracted by the phone pressed to his ear.

Perfect.

I gently placed the rubber snake on his shoulder. It took a second, but when he turned, the snake slid down right in front of his chest.

"AAHHH—!" he yelped, jolting back and falling — suit and all — into the pool with a giant splash.

I collapsed into laughter, holding my stomach as tears welled in my eyes. The sight of him surfacing, wet and furious, clutching the fake snake, was priceless.

He spat out water and glared. "Miss Booby..." he said darkly.

Uh-oh.

"Nope! I'm out—!" I turned and bolted.

He chased me up two flights of stairs, all the way to the third floor. I ducked into a dark room and locked the door behind me, giggling quietly.

Safe... for now.

I flipped on the light.

Oh no.

"Looking for me?" His voice was right behind me.

I turned with a gasp. Mr. Erickson stood there, soaked from head to toe, arms crossed and smirking.

"Oops... wrong room," I said nervously, backing up.

He strode toward me, and before I could reach the door, he scooped me up effortlessly from behind.

"No, no! I'm sorry!" I squealed as he tossed me onto the bed.

He pinned me down gently, laughing as his fingers attacked my sides. "Revenge is sweet, isn't it?"

I writhed under him, laughing so hard I couldn't breathe. "Stooop! Hahaha!"

Then suddenly... everything slowed.

His body hovered over mine. Our breaths synchronized. The laughter faded. His eyes locked onto mine — intense, unreadable. My heartbeat stuttered.

His voice was low and rough. "Say you want me to stop."

I didn't.

He brushed his lips against mine, featherlight. "Now."
