JAY POV
She looks terrified. And honestly? I don't blame her. After everything that's happened—the threats, the near-death encounter, the reveal about Tanya—it's a miracle she's still standing. But beneath that fear, she's trying to be brave. That's Jessy. Always trying to carry the weight alone.
And yet... I can't lie. I was shocked too.
Tanya.
She was my friend once. Or maybe just a casual fling. A sex buddy. But I made it crystal clear that I didn't want anything beyond that. She agreed—smiled, even—saying she was cool with it. And now this? She tries to destroy me and the people I care about just because she loved me?
How the hell was I supposed to know she felt that way?
I treated her like a friend. Every time she cried over something ridiculous or overreacted about someone ignoring her, I stayed. I comforted her. I thought I was being a decent guy. I never told her I loved her. The sex? That was mutual. Just filling a void. We both knew it—or so I thought.
But clearly, she mistook it for more. And now, she's playing some twisted game of vengeance. Isabel was once her victim. Now Jessy, too. She tried to twist Jessy's perception of me. Tried to manipulate her. And it worked—for a while. Jessy was jealous, and the tension between us spiraled out of control.
Still... I can't bring myself to hate her. Not Jessy. Not when she looks at me with those eyes, unsure but full of longing. Maybe that's why I like her more than I should. Maybe that's why I can't let go.
She confessed her feelings to me. And I stood there like a goddamn idiot—speechless. What the hell should I have said? Of course I want her. Of course I want her by my side. But I'm scared. Scared of history repeating. She gets close, then pulls away. Just when I think we're okay, she builds a wall again.
But right now, Tanya is the priority. Nothing else matters until I deal with her. No one else is getting hurt.
Jessy agreed to move in with me temporarily—until things settle down. But let's be real. I'm not letting her leave after that. I want her here. Safe. Close. Where I can protect her.
Julissa lit up like a Christmas tree when I told her they'd be staying with me. We packed up their things that same day. I'd already pulled some strings—Tilly's college application was sorted. She'd be attending the same university as Andrew. Young love blooming in the chaos. Hopefully, their story ends better than mine did back then.
When we arrived, Leah was over the moon to see Jessy again. They used to be close, and it showed. Aria, my maid—and Jessy's old friend—welcomed her with a grin and a hug. It felt like things were falling into place.
Then Isabel pulled me aside.
"Jay, um... can I talk to you for a second?" she asked quietly.
I nodded and led her to the hallway.
"I've found a new place to stay," she said hesitantly. "So I thought I should—"
"You want to move out?" I interrupted gently.
She nodded.
I sighed. "Isabel, you're one of the people I care about deeply. If Tanya's targeting Jessy, it's only a matter of time before she comes after you again. You know what happened last time. You're safer here."
"But—" she began.
"No one here is going to judge you or kick you out," I said firmly. "And if this is about my relationship with Jessy, let it go. I want to protect you. Just like I want to protect her. I won't let anything happen to either of you."
