We've all heard tales of brides fleeing the altar... but what if it's the groom who disappears, leaving behind a heartbroken bride with shattered dreams and unanswered questions?
On what was supposed to be the happiest day of her life, her groom van...
I decided to stay in the room. My body was tired, but more than that, I was emotionally drained. I didn't want to see anyone.
Why would Aria do this? Was it because I took her place as a maid? But I never stole anything from her. When she returned, she worked in the same position, and I treated her as my friend. She advised me, cared for me. I trusted her. So why...? Why would she betray me like this?
My thoughts were spiraling until I felt a warm hand gently caressing my hair. I opened my eyes and saw Jay beside me, his eyes soft with concern.
I slowly pushed myself up. He stayed close, watching me.
"Leah told me you skipped dinner," he said gently, sitting down on the edge of the bed.
"I... I'm sorry," I murmured, avoiding his gaze. "I didn't realize the time."
He reached out and cupped my cheek. "Are you okay?" he asked. "And... I'm sorry. If you're angry at me for bringing them here—"
"I'm not angry," I interrupted with a soft smile. "Even if you hadn't, I would have invited them. They deserve a second chance." I paused. "Just like me."
Jay reached for my hands and held them tightly. His voice trembled. "Jessy, please... this is all my fault. I should have looked deeper into everything, even five years ago. I should have fought for the truth." His tears fell freely now, one hand pulling mine to his chest. "I'm sorry, Jessy."
"Jay..." I whispered, shocked to see him so broken.
"I didn't trust you," he continued through sobs. "A part of me knew you wouldn't betray me, but I let what I saw cloud what I felt. I let you suffer alone. And for that... I will never forgive myself. Please... forgive me."
"Oh, Jay..." I wrapped my arms around him tightly as he broke down against me. His body shook with silent sobs, his hands clutching me as if he was afraid I'd vanish. I rocked him slowly, gently, as his tears soaked through my shirt.
"Please don't cry," I whispered, running my fingers through his hair. "It wasn't your fault. If anything... I should've trusted you more too. We were both lost."
We stayed like that—just holding each other—crying, grieving, and letting the pain we've kept inside finally breathe. Time passed without a word. When we finally pulled away, the silence between us was awkward but peaceful.

"I—" we both spoke at once.
"Ju—" again, in unison.
"You first," Jay said, managing a small smile.
I took a breath. "It's about Julissa..." I hesitated, unsure. "If you want... um... you can do a DNA test. I never—"
Before I could finish, his hands were cupping my cheeks and his lips crashed onto mine. I gasped.
"Listen to me," he said against my lips, voice firm yet tender. "I've already lost five years of being with you... and with her. When Emanuel said what he did, I felt like the ground had disappeared beneath me. But the next second, I knew—I would never let either of you go again. Julissa is my daughter. I don't need a DNA test. I knew it the moment I saw her. She's mine."
Tears welled in my eyes again, but this time, they were happy.
Without a word, I gently placed his hand on my belly. His brow furrowed, confused at first. Then his eyes widened, realization hitting him.
"You mean...?"
I nodded with a tearful smile.
"God, Jessy," he whispered, his voice cracking as he pulled me into a tight hug. "I'm so happy... I'm so damn happy."
"Me too, Jay," I whispered into his shoulder.
"Mom?"
We turned toward the door and saw Julissa standing there with her Barbie doll clutched to her chest.
"Ju, baby... come here, sweetie," I called softly.
She walked toward the bed, and Jay scooped her up, placing her gently beside us.
"Mom, are you okay?" she asked, looking into my eyes with concern.
"Yes, baby, I'm fine," I said, stroking her hair. "How was school?"
"I made lots of friends!" she beamed proudly.
Jay and I smiled at her joy. She was everything to us. I knew it was time to tell her the truth.
Taking her tiny hand in mine, I looked into her innocent eyes. "Ju, I need to tell you something important..."
Jay watched me, and I gave him a small nod—telling him I would be the one to explain.
"I've made mistakes, sweetheart," I began quietly. "But I want you to know... I love your father more than anything. And... Jay—he's your father, baby."
My voice trembled as I said the words.
"I know, Mom," she replied matter-of-factly.
Jay and I stared at her in shock.
"I saw his photo in your drawer once. And when I met him, I just knew. Also, he passed my test, so... he's my dad," she said with a shrug.
We both laughed softly, still stunned. Jesus, this girl.
"I didn't call him Dad yet because... I didn't want to hurt your feelings," she said honestly. "Can I call him Dad now?"
"Yes, baby," I whispered.
As soon as the words left my lips, she threw herself into Jay's arms.
"Daddy! Daddy!" she squealed joyfully.
"Oh baby girl, I love you so much," Jay said, kissing her face all over.
"I love you too, Daddy!" she giggled.
Then she leaned back and looked up at him with wide eyes.
"You won't leave us anymore, right?"
Jay held her close and said, "Never, baby. Never again."
As the evening wore on, Julissa eventually fell asleep in Jay's arms, her small hand curled against his chest. I watched them, warmth blooming in my heart. Jay was here, our daughter was safe, and a new life was growing inside me.
I could only hope... that this time, everything would finally be okay.
