Johanna's POV:

I ran back into the kitchen with burning tears running down my cheeks. I hold in my sobs and do my best to go unnoticed. I don't want any of these people getting too many ideas. I start to push my way through the crowd to get out of the front door. I feel someone grab my shoulder. I jump and turn to see it is Shelby. She notices my tears immediately and pulls me along.

We'll go to my room. I won't let you be alone right now. Shelby tells me through the pack link instead of screaming over the music.

I nod even though she can't see me behind her. We get to the stairs and run up them. At the top, right before the next floor, they had put up some weird temporary door. Shelby pulls out a key and unlocks it. She pulls me through, locking it behind us.

"Just a little more and then I'll give you a big hug." Shelby tells me.

We finally reach her room and once it closes, she pulls me into a bear hug. I can barely breathe. I start tapping her shoulder hoping she'll get the message. She does. And once I am able to breathe again, my walls break, and my sobs rake through me.

"Oh honey." Shelby rubs my back. "Everything is going to be okay. I know that everyone says that, but it is true. I will make everything better for you. I promise. And so will the others."

I cry for a few minutes more before I am able to get control of myself. Willow enters the room soon after.

"Anna, ah honey." She rushes to me and hugs me.

"W-W-Willow. I j-just stopped crying. I do-on't want to s-start again." I stamper.

"I'm sorry." She pulls back but holds me hand.

"Can you tell us what happened?" Shelby asks softly.

I take a deep breath before nodding my head. "A little bit."

"That's fine. I won't demand details this time." Willow tries to lighten the mood, and she does get a short laugh out of us.

"First, don't do anything or talk about doing anything until at least tomorrow. When we are better able to talk about this. With a clear mind." I tell them.

"Okay."

"Done."

"Well, um, Daric-" I feel both of their hands tighten on my own. "-when he pulled me out, he kissed me. And, um, I... I" I sigh. How do I put this correctly? "You both know the mate pull. It was great, amazing." Tears roll down my cheeks again and my throat starts to close up. I swallow, but my voice is still thick. "He said it was because of a dare. I saw them playing that stupid game too! Why wouldn't I think that when he actually kissed me?"

"Oh nonononono!" Willow taps my arm. "Don't you start that! That was only natural and rational! You two are mates! Of course you would think that!"

"Ann, what... what happened after he told you why?" Shelby asks hesitantly, but quickly rushes through, "You don't have to answer if you can't."

I shrug. "I punched him and walked away. Why?"

"I just wanted to know how stupid my brother was. I didn't know if he just added salt to the wound. Now, we won't know if he would have. I guess that's good though."

I nod, but my mind keep rolling. It replays the scene over and over again. Does he care about me at all? Was there ever any chance? Will something happen? Questions keep popping up, and I can't take it. My tears continue to stream endlessly, and my sobs keep tumbling past my lips. I swear that I can still smell his lingering scent in the air. At some point, Willow talks to both my parents and her parents to let them know we will be staying the night.
