"Dad, can I talk to you?" I ask Dad once I get home.

"Yeah, sure." He gestures to the chair in front of his desk.

I sit down and take a deep breath. "I'm not going to beat around the bush here. Why not make Daric the next Alpha?"

Dad's face falls. "You know very well why."

I sigh. "I know, but they will listen to him. I'll run the business so he doesn't at least run that into the ground. Heck! Make him a poppet Alpha. I'll do all the back bone work to keep us all afloat while he is the face of it all."

"They will listen to you too, Logan." I go to interject, but he cuts me off. "You just have to show them."

"How can I show them?" I start to get frustrated. "It's really hard to prove them wrong when they take everything I do and make into evidence to prove themselves right!"

"I'm sure that's not true."

"Daric just did it today!" I say exasperated.

Dad's mood changes, becomes darker. "Daric was at school today?"

I swallow. "Yeah."

"Will he be coming come tonight?"

I nod. "I believe so."

Dad sighs and rubs his forehead. "Good, I need to talk to that boy."

I nod. "I'll get out of your hair now." I say almost like I am asking a question. I stand. Dad looks at me for a moment as if he is studying me. He finally nods, and I leave the room.

Saturday rolls around pretty quickly. When Daric got home Wednesday night, he and Dad had a. . . chat. They were a great example of the reason Dad had his office sound proofed. We don't really know what all happened in there that night, but Daric hasn't left the house for the rest of the week, with the exception of school. A fair guess to make is that Dad gave him an Alpha order to ground him for some time.

Yesterday, Amanda told me to meet her at her house at about noon for Tommy's party. I dress in jeans and a white and green striped button-down. I enter Amanda's address into the GPS and follow its instructions to her house. I pull into the driveway, and I walk to the door and knock.

"Why, hello." Amanda answers the door. She is wearing white jeans and a teal button-down tank top with black detailing over the buttons. An over-sized white sweater is thrown on top. She also has on black Converse, a silver feather necklace, and two rings on her right hand. In her left hand, she holds a red gift bag.

I smile at the sight of her. "Hello."

She steps out of the house and closes the door behind her. "Tommy's house is just around the corner, so we can walk over there."

I nod as we start to walk down the driveway. I pause for a moment. "Wait, if they live so close to you, why don't they go to our school?"

Amanda smiles. "Sam's mom works at the next high school over, so they go with her."

I nod and catch up with her. "Makes sense."

When we make it to Tommy's house, I follow Amanda as she walks around the side and opens the gate to the backyard. The backyard is open with a carpet of bright green grass. There is a long wooden porch that stretches the length of the house. A handful of kids, no older than nine, play tag on the lawn. A small group of four pre-teen/early-teens sit in camp chairs in the far corner. Seven teens around my age stand in a group laughing on the porch. Through the glass back door, I can see the adults talking amongst themselves.
