You Found Me

Chapter 9

~Kaitlyn's POV~

The next morning I roll over to see that Ashton left my bunk. In disappointment, I sit up and peek my head out to look around. Michael and Luke are still asleep and the clock says 8:45 in the morning. I stretch and stumble up to the front of the bus.

There's a note on the table left for me.

Hey Katie,

Calum and I went out to play some soccer. We'll be back soon...feel free to make yourself some breakfast.

I pull a box of cereal out and make myself a bowl. As I chow down on the Captain Crunch, Luke greets me with a nice display of bed head and half open eyes.

"Good morning sunshine." I chirp and he chuckles.

"Shut up Kat."

We chat for a while and then it goes silent. He finally asks a question I was dreading to hear.

"What's going on with you and Ashton?"

"Nothing Luke it's nothing."

"It doesn't seem like nothing."

"Well it is."

"Then why did you fall asleep with him last night?" I freeze and don't know what to say.

In loss for words I stand up and put my cereal bowl down. Then I storm off to my bunk past a very confused and tired looking Michael.

I crawl into my bed and warm tears soak my cheeks.

How did he know? Why doesn't he trust me? What is going on with Ashton and I?

The curtain to my bed pulls open and I hold my breath.

"Go away."

"Shhhh....It's okay. It's alright Kaitlyn."

Ashton's voice soothes me and his fingers trace patterns lightly on my back.

I flinch at his gentle touch. This can't keep going on.

"Get out Ashton." I say, turning to face him. "You can't keep coming to my rescue. I don't know who you think you are but it's really confusing me and I would appreciate if you just left me be."

After a few seconds of silence I suspect he left, but I was wrong when I hear his voice crack.

"That's the thing Kat. I can't leave you be. It's too hard." I feel his lips brush against my neck and I get goose bumps and butterflies in my stomach as I hear him leave the room.

I let a few more tears stroll down my face and then fall back asleep.

An hour later Michael is shaking me softly to wake me up.

"Katie wake up. We have to go to rehearsal."

I nod slightly and follow him out to the living room.

There's no sign of Ashton and I secretly thank The Lord for that. Calum is eating a banana in the corner and Luke is texting someone with a wide smile on his face.

I plop down on the couch next to him to look at the message.

The odd thing is that he's texting Paige.

"Bro, are you texting my best friend?"

He laughs and nods.

"Yup! She's really fun." I pat him on the back and laugh at his adorableness.

Ash walks into the room a few seconds later without even glancing towards me.

"Alright boys lets go do some music." He says and we all head out of the bus.

I sit in the front row while watching sound check.

The music begins to play for Don't Stop.

As I listen intently I avoid any eye contact with Ashton or my brother.

After sound check I grab a soda backstage and go out for a walk.

I have to clear my head.

I open the door to the parking lot outside and just start strolling.

"Kat wait!" I turn my head and see Luke running to catch up with me.

"Hey sis what's wrong?" He asks me.

"Nothing." I mutter back .

"Something's obviously upsetting you. Look at me." He picks my chin up so my blue eyes meet his.

"I'm sorry for not trusting you with Ash earlier. But please tell me what's happening."

"Fine." I sigh in defeat, knowing there's no way around my brother.

"One of those first days we hung out, Ashton walked me out. Remember? Well that evening we kissed. Ever since then he's been acting strange.

He's always doing stuff with me, staring at me, and last night he helped me fall asleep. But I'm sick of him trying to help me all the time. I don't know what we are and he is confusing me every time he interacts with me." I sigh and Luke squeezes my hand.

"Hey I'll talk to him later." He assures me.

"Thank you Lukey." You plant a kiss on his cheek and turn back to go get ready for their show.
