You Found Me

Chapter 25

~Ashton's POV~

"Is there any family of Kaitlyn Hemmings present?" A doctor holding a clipboard calls from a few feet away.

Luke steps up and shakes hands with the doctor before following him deeper into this dreadful place. I place my head in my hands and pray for the best. I don't want to think about Kaitlyn's death. I can't, it makes me sick. I would do anything to save her. Anything.

Almost on cue with my thoughts, Luke comes back and taps me on the shoulder. 

"Ashton come with me." His jaw clenches and immediately I know it's coming. He's trying to hit me with the blow as softly as possible, I just know it. 

"Ash she made it."

At first I don't believe my ears are working properly. It's been a wacky 2 weeks, I could be hallucinating. But sure enough he says it again.

"Ashton, Kaitlyn is alive."

You would think that this would be a moment of joy and celebration but only shock overcomes my body and mind. This is the hardest blow I've ever taken. It takes a good few minutes of deep breathing and leaning against the wall for support. Then the doctor joins us both with more information. 

"Congratulations lads. However we must run some tests on her to make sure everything is alright. Kaitlyn has been throwing up since the minute her eyes opened. She's gained a couple pounds and we aren't sure what it all means. Nurses Faith and Danielle are going to running through everything with her. Mr. Hemmings I'll need some signatures if you would just follow me."

Luke followed and dealt with all the paperwork. I went back and explained everything to Michael and Calum. I must have looked like a crazy old man who is on drugs after a mean stage of depression. About an hour later we were allowed in to see her. I entered first. Luke behind me, then Cal, and lastly Mikey. 

"Baby girl." I embraced her in the tightest hug I've ever given and tears threatened to spill. She gulped and bit her lip as each of us reunited.

"Hello boys." Her voice croaked and a small smile creeped along her pale lips. The one nurse, Danielle, stood next to the bed Kat lied on. 

"Guys I'm afraid there is some important news that must be shared." We all took a short breath at the words and I noticed Katie looking down and fumbling with her hands.

"After running through several exams, it appears as though Kaitlyn is pregnant. When she was attempting to break through the coma, her body was also having pregnancy reactions. It seems she is 2 weeks in, and I'm going to assume that whomever is her boyfriend here is the father. However, we have examined the child's health as well as hers and both of them are in absolute great condition. Congratulations on both the baby and the coma." She dismisses herself politely, leaving all 4 of us staring in silence and shock.

"I'm going to be a father." The words escape my lips in a hushed tone. "We're going to be parents."
