Leigh was it. Being 'it' meant that she had to catch Jesy.
"I'm coming in!" She screamed with delight as her legs hit the concrete of the sidewalk, nearing Jesy.
"No! No!" Jesy felt a tap on her back from the other girl and turned around. "You cheated!" She stomped one foot then folded her arms.
Leigh-Anne giggled and started doing a happy dance. "No I didn't. I'm just fast. It's especially impressive as I've got my heavy knapsack on my back." She pointed a finger at her back.
Jesy rolled her eyes though it was a bit hard for Leigh-Anne to see. The streets were getting dark and a lot of people were walking through them, hardly paying attention to their little game. The most attention they had gotten was from a few people saying to watch it. They were quite far from the bus stop as they had played tons of games to run away from it. "Whatever. That game was boring anyway." Jesy kicked the ground then looked up. "Don't you just wish that we were all allowed to carry a star home?"
Leigh-Anne looked up at the sky and saw a few stars twinkling down. "My sister says that they're balls of gas burning millions of miles away. I told her that they were pretty nightlights sent by angels."
Jesy grinned like a mischievous child at Leigh. "I like that. I used to call 'em lost fireflies."
Leigh-Anne giggled. "Do you always play with people you just meet?" She all but asked, placing her thumbs under the straps of her backpack. She had never met a person so forward. She considered herself a kind of friendly person and she would not do what Jesy did with her.
Jesy shrugged. "Only if they interest me I suppose." She smirked.
Leigh-Anne did not really understand her. "Alright." They both had to be shouting over the noise of the cars driving hurriedly on the road.
"So, what you wanna play now? Should we ask the ferret to suggest?" Jesy asked beginning to skip ahead.
Leigh-Anne wiped her face. She was very wet from playing in the rain. It rained several times while they were fooling around and she learned to enjoy it. Jesy had brought her to the park where they both lay in large pools of water and made water angels. Leigh had found that a little gross but satisfying after a while. Her hair was dirty. "I guess we could- wait! Uh-oh!" She looked at her watch. It was around seven and she was supposed to be home by four. Her mother was probably at home wondering where she was. "I don't even know where we are. How am I going to get there?" She was looking all over as if the answer would emerge by her doing so.
Jesy scratched her ear. "What's wrong? D'you see a monster? They're not real unless you think about them." She smirked again waiting for Leigh-Anne to answer. When Leigh-Anne started panicking a little Jesy raised an eyebrow. "What's wrong with you?"
"I need to get home! I'm so late." Leigh-Anne did not even know how to get there. "We-we need to go to the bus stop. I think I'll be able to find my way from there." She started running but stopped. "Do you remember where the bus stop is?"
Jesy walked up to her with her eyes rolling. "Why are you so worried? Can't you just go home at any time?"
Leigh shook her head. "No. I have a curfew. Don't you?" She was very curious about this girl. She liked her and wanted to know more.
Jesy smiled. "Nope." She held her head high and started walking passed Leigh. "This way ferret girl."
Leigh did not like that name. "Don't call me that." She jogged a bit to get to Jesy's side.
"I can call people whatever I want so deal with it." Jesy stuck her tongue out then started running. "Race ya!"
Leigh screamed and chased her. "Cheater!"
