The next day Jennifer had her first wedding meeting. Her parents and Julia were taking time off from work to stay in LA until the wedding in Vancouver, as Jennifer needed all the hands that she could get. Lana actually lived near Jennifer. They never knew it since they only reconnected at the engagement party. Ginny lived only a few blocks away and Oliver, Hugo and Evan were pretty close. Jamie, Rose and Jessica were all out of town, but they all promised that they would be there in time for dress shopping. She hadn't told anyone, but Julia that she wanted them to be bridesmaids. Jennifer decided that today at the meeting she would tell Ginny and Lana. Colin's parents were flying in from Ireland that day, so while Jennifer cooked and got the house ready for their guests he was off fetching them from the airport.
"Need help?" Evie asked walking into their apartment.
"Could you help me clean up. The apartment is so messy," Jennifer said.
"Sure," Evie started to pick up Evan's toys.
"Just throw them into his room," Jennifer said. Evie followed her instructions and headed to Evan's room.
"Hey bud why don't you help your mom and I clean?" Evie said patting his arm.
"Jen is not my mom," Evan said sternly. Evie open and closed her mouth, but no words came out.
"But you call her mom," Evie tried to find the right words.
"I don't want to talk about this with you," Evan bursted out.
"Umm ok then," Evie went back to the living room. She wasn't sure if she should tell Jennifer about her and Evan's conversation. Evan couldn't have meant what he said. He loved Jennifer. Maybe Evie should talk to him later and sort things out. If she told Jennifer now it would just stress her out. She might even postpone the wedding. Evie needed to get to the bottom of Evan feelings as soon as possible. She didn't want Jennifer and Colin to cancel the wedding. They deserved to get their happy ending.Evie and Jennifer continued to shove clothing, books, toys and whatever else was lying around into Jen and Colin's bedroom in hopes that it would make the apartment look a bit cleaner.
"Does it look better?" Jennifer asked examining the room.
"Yeah not bad," Evie said. They were both about to relax on the couch when Colin opened the door.
"We are here!" Colin announced and his parents walked in behind him.
"Jennifer!" His mom walked quickly over to her and embraced her into a hug. "Let me see the ring!" Jennifer held out her hand displaying her engagement ring. "Oh it's just lovely. Good job boy," she said to Colin.
"Yeah he did a very good job," Jennifer smiled.
"It's so large compared to the one you gave Helen," his dad pointed out. Jennifer wasn't sure what to make of that statement. Colin's parents were both Catholic. His dad was not happy when him and Helen got divorced. However, his mom loved Jennifer.
"Evan grandma and grandpa are here," Colin yelled.
"One second," Evan yelled.
"Evan now," Colin said sharply.
"No!" Evan yelled.
"I will get him," Evie said.
"Thank you Evangeline," Colin's mom said. Evie walked into Evan bedroom once again. Something was defiantly going on with this kid.
"Evan please come out. Grandma and Grandpa want to see you," Evie tried to say kindly.
"They aren't my real grandparents," he said bitterly. What was he talking about?
"Yes they are Evan... they came all the way from Ireland-"
"Oh sorry I thought it was... never mind," Evan walked out of his room. Evan greeted his grandparents kindly giving them both hugs. What was up with him? His mood totally changed.Soon after the arrival of Mrs. and Mr. O'Donoghue Jennifer's family arrived. Their families talked joyously about their engagement. Con, Colin's father didn't say much, but he seemed to be a bit more accepting of the idea of a wedding. Jennifer knew that Con wasn't a fan of her, but she didn't dwell on it. She didn't want to waste her time trying to please him. He would eventually learn to like her or he wouldn't. It wasn't Jennifer's job to make him like her. Jennifer made small sandwiches and she had picked up small desserts from a bakery. She wanted the planning session to feel like afternoon tea.
"Do you need help?" Lana asked washing her hands in the kitchen sink.
"Oh my gosh I didn't even see you come in," Jennifer laughed.
"The door was open so I just walked in," Lana watched Jennifer put together a sandwich attentively and then followed what she had done. She cut the bread into a small rectangle then added the meat and the lettuce. "These are so cute. When did you learn how to do this?" Lana asked. Lana remember that Jennifer was never much of a cook when she was younger.
"I went to this little cafe that does afternoon tea, and I always loved their sandwiches. Since I've had lots of time on my hands I just started experimenting with different things," Jennifer said plopping one onto the tray.
"Wow good for you," Lan patted her on the back. After the entire tray was filled Jennifer went to hand them out."Lana?" Evie tapped her on the shoulder.
"Yeah what's up Evie?" She asked.
"I need your advice on something," Evie said.
"Ok I have something to tell you too," Lana smiled. They walked to the hallway so that they wouldn't be heard.
"Something is up with Evan," Evie spilled. She didn't know who else to tell. If she told Don and Mary they would over react. Don didn't like Jennifer, so he would tell Jennifer and Colin to not get married.
"That's the exact same thing I was gonna tell you," Lana said.
"He seems to be angry at Jen. I have no idea why though," Evie said.
"He asked me the other day if his mom, Helen would approve of the wedding," Lana said.
"This is not good," Evie started.
"The wedding is in a couple of weeks," Lana said.
"Maybe we can just distract Evan... distance him from Jen and Colin," Evie suggested.
"I guess... we just need to make sure that Jennifer and Colin don't suspect anything," Lana said.
"We can do this," Evie exhaled. It was going to be a lot of work, but they had to succeed. This wedding needed to happen flawlessly.Hope you enjoyed the chapter. Do you think Lana and Evie will be able to keep the secrete? Please vote and comment your thoughts!
