For days after I started going back to school we would all meet in the library in the far left corner near these big classroom windows after classes. Shelves pressed in on the empty space on the two remaining sides, leaving just a sliver for an entrance. Casey found it hardest to get in.
"Did you guys really have to pick here for the hangout place? Why can't we just all lie around in Fallon and Lucas's room?" He huffed when he joined us. He was always the last one in.
"Because I don't want you to feel comfortable in our room." Lucas and I replied simultaneously, our eyes staying glued to our books.
"Hey, Princess." I looked up at Devon at the speed of light, my eyes wide. Alex was glaring at his brother. He shrugged. "I can call her what I want. Jeez, you all have your individual nicknames for her, why can't I?"
"We don't all have individual nicknames for her-" Eli started.
"Well she's got a bunch of them. Lucas and Casey call her by her name, Aaron and Miranda call her Fog, Dawn calls her Foggy, and you call her Babe. So I'm calling her Princess." Devon interrupted. I shook my head and went back t reading my book. "So, as I was saying, what's going to be the plan for this weekend? We can't let her get hurt again, but we can't even trust ourselves to protect her." Yep, Devon was filled in on the whole "Demons out to get me" situation.
"Aaron and Casey won't be used again. This time it will probably be you, Devon, who attempts murder on me. I see a pattern. People who become my friends in a short amount of time seem to be the people the demon is possessing. Lucas is an over time frienemy, and Eli is-" I was about to say jealousy buddy. But that would be cruel to say to him, and would sort of antiproductive for our plan.
"Your boyfriend who started off with a bad rep and steadily grew closer to you over time." Eli finished. Alex sent me a look and shook his head slightly. I've been slipping up a lot lately.
It's because I fried your brain, but between everyone and a healing textbook Casey brought we were able to fix you up best as possible. Some things will be a little burnt though, and you have to give your brain time to completely heal yourself. Fae have a backup wave of protection for their brain that can heal every cell but it works individually, starting at the back. Alex thought to me.
You realize I'm only going to remember about a fifth of what you said and the fact that if my brain isn't completely dead I have a chance of getting back to normal over time.
"So." Lucas said, snapping his book shut. I looked up again and saw that he ahd a bookmark in between the pages close to the end. "We keep Devon away from you at all costs? Or do Alex and Casey have to be with you at all times?" I furrowed my eyebrows, thinking.
"There is always the chance that both of them won't be on my team, so they can't really do that. And Devon might not be the next target if the demon's 'master' sees that we've figured her out. I know who not to go with. The iris goes a blazing scarlet with a black rim. But if I'm close enough to see the eyes then I might be screwed. So two people should keep on eye each on me, if you lose sight for a minute then you go to Dawn. If Dawn goes missing you go to me." I informed. Everyone nodded.
"I think we should go with Miranda and Casey for watching you guys. This way, if the demonmaster decides to go back and make the demon possess Casey, Miranda's got you covered, but if the demonmaster is deciding on Miranda, Casey's got it. Out of everyone those two are probably the ones who care most about both of you equally." Eli said. Dawn huffed.
"Well thanks!" She exclaimed.
"Lucas cares more about you than me because he said himself he wanted me dead, and we share Casey and Miranda. And that plan is good because Casey has experienced the possession and could probably tell the signs of someone being the same way, and knows how to deal with them, and Miranda has animal buddies she's can listen to because they can actually sense the demon inside a person." I comforted. Dawn pouted. I smiled sweetly. "And, due to human nature, I care more about you than myself." I said. "That makes us equal. Lucas and I care more about you than me, Casey and Miranda are nuetral, Honey is neither, Aaron is half to me and Derrick is half to me because they don't really know any of us, and I pretty much introduced them to our group, and Eli is my boyfriend." Dawn punched me in the shoulder.
