Part 6: The Masked Assassin

You and Maria both glare at Ed. Maria talks first "Why did you invite Ava to this?! She will probably invite all of New York and your new place will be trashed!" He sighs "It wouldn't be nice to invite everyone but her. Plus I have bouncers at the entrance with a list of everyone on it to prevent that."

You shake your head "Well if you're ok with it, I will not worry about it. Though I would advise to make sure anything you treasure would be locked away somewhere safe." He nods "I already did that. H.E.L.E.N.?" H.E.L.E.N appears before you all "The party is going. Is there anything else you want me to do?"

He responds "Yes, lock the vault and the upstairs floor." She nods before pointing to the vault in the middle of the floor. It closes up and goes into the floor. She looks back at Ed "The upstairs is also locked now." Ava yells through the window "Ed! Are you coming or not?! I'm getting bored waiting for you." Ed smiles back to H.E.L.E.N. "Thank you H.E.L.E.N." She nods before leaving.

Ed sighs before waving to Ava "I'll be right out." He lets his suit go away and into his skin allowing his sleek blue tux to be seen. Maria looks at it with longing "I really wish I had that." He laughs "You'll get there someday Maria!" She sighs before pulling the last piece of armor off of her before twirling around. What used to be a white shirt and sweatpants is now a dazzling blue off the shoulders dress. Ed looks at her with surprise "Wow! See you do have your own tricks!"

She nods "This will be on the market next month! I'm really happy about it!" You all leave the basement with Ava accompanying you all. Ed gestures to Maria with his arm. They link arms and walk up the last steps to the party where people start cheering. The loud music hits you full on and the familiar smell of alcohol hits you. As you walk more in the crowd, you feel a tap on your shoulder. You twirl around to meet the eyes of Azari "Oh Azari! How is the party for you?"

He smiles "It just got 10x better!" You blush "You're too kind! I didn't think this would be your type of scene." He nods "Yes, this isn't how I would spend my Friday night but Ed insisted that I come." You laugh "Well I'm glad you came." He hands you a drink "Don't worry it's not alcohol. It's a drink from my country." You laugh "It would be fine if it was alcohol. The alcohol here doesn't affect me." You take a sip of the drink and are hit with a sweet fruit taste.

You finish the drink quickly "This is delicious!" He smiles "I'm glad you like it." The music stops and you can hear Ed "Hello everyone! Are you having fun?!" Everyone cheers. You turn around to see Ed is standing on a table "I'm glad you all came! I want to make a toast!" He's handed a bottle of champagne "To success!"

Everyone raises their cups and glasses as he cuts off the top of the champagne with a knife. The music starts blasting again and everyone goes wild. You look to Azari "He's as wild as his father I've heard!" He nods his head "Indeed!" You both laugh together until you see James in the crowd, heading towards you. You look at him but talk to Azari "Isn't he supposed to be in jail?" Azari looks to James and nods "He should be, but he got away from his dad."

James is now standing over you. He adjusts his leather jacket before talking to you "(y/n), I need to talk to you." You raise an eyebrow at him "Why?" He lends you his hand "Please? I'm asking nicely and that's something that doesn't usually happen." Azari speaks to him with a hint of anger "They don't have to do anything." You smile to Azari "It is ok Azari. Just watch me in case something happens."

He nods and you take James' hand. He leads you down a hallway from the party. He stops and looks to you "I wanted to thank you for saving me from my dad." You shrug "Sure, whatever. Is that all you wanted?" He shakes his head before cupping your face and pulling you into a kiss. He kisses you passionately. You however blast him with your magic and send him down the hall "What the hell James?!" You walk off angrily until you hear an explosion. You start transforming your clothes into something close to what your father wears.

You then run out to see people running everywhere. You see a dark figure wearing all black with a cloak and black mask walk into the house. You see Ed in his full armor, Sophia with her bow notched, Azari in a full black panther costume, and Torunn and Cade in full Asgardian gear. You walk towards the person "It's not wise to crash a superhero party." The person starts talking with a disguised voice "Superhero children. You're just puppets of your parents."

James walks behind you with his hologram shield "What do you want?" The person laughs slightly "You James Rogers. You have a large bounty on you and I intend to cash in on it." They fire him with some sort of energy blast. You throw up a force field and block the blast. Ed starts firing his repulsors at them while Sophia sends different explosive arrows at the person. You grab James' hand and open a portal. You both go through where you land outside the mansion.

James yells at you "We have to help them!" You yell back "Oh so now you're all noble and everything?! We need to get you out of here!" An explosion comes out the side of the house following by lightning shooting down from the sky. You grab his hand again and start running. James yells "Let go of my hand!" You don't and make it a few blocks before trying to focus to open another portal "What are you doing?! If we're going to run let's run!" You shh him "Quiet! I'm trying to focus!"

James waits on you to open a portal when you see the dark figure come out of the shadows. They aim at you both. You go to make a shield but they shoot faster than you could make it. James knocks you out of the way, shielding you. The person advances on you and holds their gun to James' head "They didn't say anything about you being alive. Bye bye Star spangled spawn." You grip the gun and push it away but as you do it turns into sand "What the hell?! How?"

You take advantage of their distraction to blast them into a nearby wall. You get up and hold them in a force field. This is requiring a lot of your energy. All the heroes come around the corner to you holding your force field around the costume person. You yell out to them "Be ready to detain them!" They get close to the force field as you drop the force field. You collapse to the ground where James catches you. They try to detain the person but they go up in black smoke.

Ed yells angrily "They blow up my house and just leave?!" Azari looks back at you and immediately runs to your side "(y/n)!" You smile to him "I'm fine. Just give me a minute to recover." A blast of energy comes from the sky. Loki and Thor come out of it. Loki runs to you and looks to them both "Explain now!"
