Part 23: Family First

The original plan was that you all take jets but you wanted to try to keep a low profile so you decided to teleport you, Ed, and James to the base. You all sneak around the warehouse until you come across their supercomputers. MODOK is looking over them. He laughs as he finishes his final touches and turns around. Ed immediately reacts to his face "It's like a prune grape on a moped. That's so disturbing." You do everything to hold back the laughs. James immediately puts his hand over your mouth to stop you.

You swat away his hand when the commotion you guys were making caused to give your positions away. MODOK blast his beams at your spot. You all split in different directions. You blast him back, sending him into the computers. James jumps off a table to land a blow to MODOK. He blasts away into the air where Ed intercepts him by blasting him back to the ground. He smashes into the ground. James cuts away his rocket as you use your magic to make him unable to move.

He starts laughing as you ensure he will stay down "Well hello (y/n)! I do miss your black and red uniform. How is dear dad doing?" You go to punch him in the face when James catches your punch "Yeah, we're not leaving here with a dead guy. Let me do the talking." You huff as you step slightly away as James punches him "That's for what you did to (y/n). Where's Red Skull and the others?"

He laughs "Just look to the computer." Ed looks to it as he types a few things before slightly gasping "We need to get back to headquarters!" He blasts off quickly as you both are left to look over what he saw. It's blueprints to HQ. You immediately know why Ed ran out. Maria and a few others are protecting the newborn children of the Avengers. You immediately yell a spell at MODOK "Hvílað!"

He's knocked out before you open a portal to HQ as James drags him through it. On the other side, you come out to a full battle. An explosion goes off near the portal. James drops MODOK and yanks you out of the way. He covers you as another goes off. He helps you to your feet when you see who is causing all the explosions. A hydra agent has a rocket launcher and just firing in different directions. Ed flies through the windows and blasts the agent across the room, instantly killing him.

James looks to Ed who is taking out everything in his way. You push James up "We got to find Maria!" You both run through different halls before getting to the basement where the panic room was located. As you move down further, a trail of bodies leads down to it. As you get the entrance, Ed is holding Maria in his arms as he cries. She has blood coming out of her mouth and has since passed.

You both run up to him. Ed isn't making any sense. His words are a jumbled into one. His tears are streaming down his red cheeks. You look over her before telling Ed "I can bring her back." James grabs your arm "No you can't. The dead stay dead." You shake your head "No. I know how to." James tights his grip as he yells slightly "I know what that can do to you! I'm not letting you take that risk!"

You blast him out of the room before closing the door. You place an enchantment on it before you look to Ed. You move her to the ground before letting your magic flourish. The bright green ore goes through the room as you repeat the words "Death ir eigi hí. Let ljós liva á!" Maria gasps out before turning over to cough up blood. Ed holds her close as he cries happily.

Your enchantment breaks as James punches through it. He looks to Maria before to you "You didn't. What were you thinking?!" He looks over you before Ed questions James "What could happen?" He looks over you "They have some of their life force taken. I read it in a book. They could become mortal and die. The dead are supposed to stay dead they warned."

Ed puts it together "What...(y/n) you could die?" You nod as you get up "It's fine! I'm fine." You ask Maria who gets up slowly "Where are the children?" She thinks before freezing "Red Skull took them. We have to go after them!" You immediately start to open a portal when an agent throws a knife into your back. You immediately feel it go through your side. James throws his shield at him, knocking him out. He looks to you as you for the knife. You go for it but James immediately stops you. You look at your hand to see blood "I'm...bleeding?"
