{Melody's POV}
I felt him out there before I even woke up all the way. All I could do was lay there. Everything hurt. My side especially, but my whole body ached. I should've given Saul more before I zapped him, but I'd been too focused on saving Aiden.
Which I knew now was pointless considering he'd barely bit him. I guess I understood though. I didn't give him much a choice and I didn't understand what I was denying at the time, or I'd have just healed myself when Douglas told me to.
Eventually, I forced myself up to go check on Aiden. He was a mess. He'd hardly been touched physically, but Saul sent him right back into his nightmares. I bent down and touched his arm lightly. He wasn't dreaming at all just then so I left him and went to the bathroom, then the kitchen.
I didn't usually make coffee, but I needed any help I could get. I placed my mug under the drip until it was full, then switched it out for the pot. Then I went out, in my pajama pants, tank top, and barefoot, to check on Douglas.
Saul had gone home, but Douglas slept on the bench swing. He'd taken his bloody shirt off and balled it up for a really terrible pillow. I stood there on the deck, watching his solid aura while he rocked slightly in the wind with his arms crossed loosely over his chest and his long legs hanging right off into the air.
With his eyes closed and the blood on his forehead smeared, he didn't look anywhere near dead. Even without him moving an inch, he still couldn't ever come close to how lifeless he'd been before.
My heart clenched painfully and I let out a quiet breath.
I looked out at my bloodstained yard. The bodies were all gone, but there wasn't much their clean up crew could do for the bloody mud. Time and rain would have to wash that away, if it ever could.
I felt a pang of guilt, but only a little. Those bastards deserved what they got and I'd do it again if anyone else decided it was a good idea to fuck with my mate.
Still, I was glad Kas showed them the mercy of killing them. I hadn't cared about that, or really anything, at the time. The only thing I made sure of was their inability to move. I tore limbs from bodies, severed muscles and bones. I had been merciless and I hardly cared at all.
I wanted it to matter they weren't vampires. I'd never killed someone who wasn't a vampire. I really wished it mattered, but it just didn't.
That's what happens when you attack someone. They fight back.
The silver aura stirred slightly and I looked back over to him. He made a gravely noise as he woke up. I could tell the second he realized I was there because he sat bolt upright in a flash.
"Melody," He said in a tone I'd never heard from him before. It was rough and raspy and I liked it.
"You shouldn't sleep out here." I said calmly. "It's not safe."
"Well, you won't let me in and I'm not leaving." He said, only sounding a little annoyed. If it were me, I'd be pissed.
"You should go." I said for maybe the hundredth time.
"I'm not leaving." He repeated, just like every other time I tried to kick him out.
I sipped my coffee and thought through my options. I could feel his resolve from here and knew he wasn't leaving. I could either outlast him, because he'd have to leave eventually, or let him in. Out here he'd be a sitting duck any second he was asleep, even if he wasn't asleep if yesterday was any indication. At least inside he'd be a little safer.
"Fine." I said and turned. I stepped inside. "You're invited, but try not to wake Aiden or I'm kicking you out again."
His aura was right on my heels as I went back into my bedroom. I motioned to the bathroom for him to take a shower and went to my bed.
