Without a second thought, Alex pulled his phone out, unlocked it, and went to her pretty smile in his contacts. He pressed dial and held it up to his ear.

It rang once and he suddenly felt sick. What would he say to her? She was on a date for Christ's sake. She'd clearly decided he was too much to deal with.

"Douglas?" She asked uncertainly. "Is everything okay? You don't feel okay."

"Um..." His eyes locked on Saul and he worried he might hurl on him, not that he'd have anything to bring up.

Saul gave him a very serious look that threatened pain without any pleasure if he didn't follow through.

"That your man?" A male voice asked on her end. "What did he say last night after I left? I bet that was a fun conversation."

"Shut up, asshole." She snapped and the guy laughed. "Yeah, keep laughing." She didn't sound so angry at him, or even angry at all. She sounded like she kind of liked him.

"Melody, I love you. Choose me. I want you to choose me." Alex said and immediately felt like his chest was going to implode. What the hell did he just say?

A pin could have dropped on either side of the phone and even Aiden would have heard it.

Saul's eyes went wide and he wondered if he'd imagined the whole thing. He hadn't known what to expect, except maybe for Alex to hang up and bolt, but he would've bet money against him saying anything close to those words. And he would have laughed in the face of anyone who bet otherwise.

Melody looked over at Kas with eyes so wide he worried they might pop right out her head. He sipped his coke and watched her appear to malfunction with an amused smile. He didn't have vampire hearing, but the cafe they were in was quiet enough he heard the Irish voice loud and clear.

"I think he heard about our little bet." He said.

Melody's big blue eyes finally blinked once, then a couple more quick times before she realized what was going on. "D-Douglas...this isn't a date." She felt sick right away. What if she somehow imagined what he'd said?

"It's not?" He asked in a whisper, turning his gaze to the boy still shaking from their conversation.

"No...we're friends, not even really friends I guess. More like reluctant cousins." She said and stopped herself from rambling.

"Ouch." Kas lifted a hand over his heart as if her words hurt him. "And here I thought you hated me. I guess I'll have to work harder."

She sent him a half-hearted glare. Okay, maybe they were friends, but she wasn't going to tell him that.

Alex rubbed his hand against his forehead, wondering how this all went so wrong. He wished he hadn't said a thing, but he couldn't very well take it back now. "Angel, I..." He groaned at the painful situation he just fell head first into. He could knock her brother clean out if he was invited right then.

"Do...do you really or just because you thought I was with someone else?" She asked nervously.

Saul shoved him lightly to get his attention then gave him a look that promised death if he tried backing out.

Alex shoved him away and turned his back on him. He opened his mouth to say something, anything, but nothing would come out.

"Because I love you." She rushed out. "I- I think I always did. Lucifer told me angels choose their mates and that's why your spell picked me. It's my fault. I'm sorry. I didn't know or I would'a...I would've..." She didn't know what she would've done so she looked back to Kas for help, who was absolutely no help whatsoever.
