"What's it like?" Sophie asked, leaning in and nearly whispering as if Douglas couldn't hear from inside the house.
Garrett grimaced. "Come on, Soph. I'm right here."
She playfully shoved him. "Then go inside. This is girl talk anyway and you're next."
Now I made a face. "Ew."
We all laughed, but Garrett stood and walked back inside.
It had been three days and I was in heaven, at least some of the time. Douglas was more than amazing, even if he sometimes got anxious when feelings were involved. Aiden, on the other hand, was a mess.
He hardly slept. He was jumping every time Douglas moved. I had to wake him from nightmares twice so far. It was hard to watch and feel because there wasn't anything I could do short of uninviting Douglas. And I would never put him through that.
"So?" Soph pushed after Garrett was gone.
"You know he can probably hear us right?"
"I don't care. Girl, give me deets!"
I laughed again. "Well...it's so good. I don't even...I don't even know how to explain how great it is. We're like...just made for each other. It's crazy."
She sat back with a grin. "I'm so happy for you."
I gave her a thankful smile.
"I wonder if it would still be so good if you had something to compare it to." She said more to herself, then gave me an apologetic look. "Sorry, I'm not trying to poke holes in it. I'm just thinking out loud."
"No, it's okay. And I think so, actually. Douglas has a ton more experience and he thinks about it being the best too."
"Man, I wish I could see into Garrett's head like that."
We stayed out talking until the sun went down, then she left with Garrett. I had to be up early to meet with Dad, but I doubted I was getting any sleep.
Aiden was slouched over on the arm of the couch snoring.
I shook him lightly. "Hey,"
He groaned and squeezed his eyes closed. His aura told me he wasn't hardly awake.
"Just lay down." I said softly and pushed him a little.
It was enough for him to get the hint in his state and he fell over, curling up. I pulled his blanket out from under the coffee table and covered him up, wishing I could do more.
I touched his cheek to check for a nightmare, but he wasn't dreaming of anything. That was best and also made me feel a little better.
I was quiet as I went to my room. I made sure to close the door as lightly as possible.
Douglas was scrolling on his phone, already shirtless and in bed, exactly where I liked him.
It rang in his hand as I slid under the blanket beside him.
There was a picture of a gorgeous tan woman with a resting bitch face to rival the best of them. The name said Roxy.
I made eye contact with him as he answered it.
"Rox?"
As if such a short name needed shortening.
"No, and I won't be again either." He said, then listened.
His lips twitched up just a little. "Perhaps."
My eyes narrowed and he glanced down at me, his smile widening.
