¤Chapter Eight¤
I need to get the hell out of here.
The liquid heat from the spiked beverage is the only thing that kept me grounded. I watched my friends as they became the life of the party, attracting everyone's attention. They don't need me here.
I turned and walked over to a plastic folding table that was lined with red cups. They vibrated from the bass thumping from the speakers. I tossed my empty cup for a full one. Owen was right behind me; I could feel his presence. It shouldn't be hard to lose him though. I picked up the pace, letting my body slide between other bodies as I evaded him.
After walking around the 600 square ft pool twice I slid open the back door and made a beeline for the bathroom inside. I've been in Brittney's house several times but instead of being comfortable like I was when we were friends, it feels suffocating.
I grabbed the sink and stared at the blank face glancing back at me in the mirror. Why am I like this? Maybe the girls were right to worry about me. I wet my hands with cold water and splashed my face with it. I gave up wearing makeup and giving a shit about what others think of my appearance last year, so no one even offered me lip gloss. Angie wanted to, but she didn't.
I took a deep breath and opened the door, slamming into something firm.
"What the—!"
"Crap, I'm so sorry Madi" Owen held the cup I placed on a small table outside the bathroom. Before it was replaced, a picture of me and Brittney was hung on the wall there. I remember her getting so drunk at parties I always had to hold her up and one of those pictures found a place on her wall. It was like I was a part of the family.
"You spilled my drink" I groaned.
"I know, I saw that you left here and—" He stopped mid-sentence, cheeks flushed.
I sighed. Without looking down to confirm I said, "You got me wet, didn't you?"
"Uh..." He nodded. "Yeah."
"Eyes up here" I snapped my fingers in front of my face to regain his focus.
"Sorry" He shot a sheepish grin in my direction before removing his black jacket and handing it to me. "Here, take this"
"Forget it" I walked past him, ignoring his kind gesture.
A couple people are inside the house, but most are at the party in the back. I jogged upstairs to the guest bedroom and walked in the closet. If I remember correctly, these rooms have some spare clothes, just in case whoever's staying over doesn't. I grabbed the darkest color shirt I could find; Yellow. It was either that or fuchsia pink and there is no way in hell I'm wearing that. This used to be what I called 'my second bedroom' and back then I challenged myself to wear all the colors of the rainbow because I wanted to be seen.
The door swung open and a couple making out profusely stumbled their way to the bed, groping and grinding on each other.
This is why I hate parties.
"This room is occupied" I leaned against the closet door frame.
The girl reacted first. She was short with red hair and pouty lips. "Oh shit, Madi"
The guy groaned. "We were here first"
"No," I corrected as the girl tugged her dress down. Poor girl doesn't realize the material can't stretch as far as she wants it to. "I was in the closet"
The guy wobbled up to his feet. Brendon, I recognize him from one of my classes. He's also some kind of popular athlete. Most importantly, he's a known player who used to hang out with the guy who destroyed me. "So?"
"So?" I echoed before marching over to him. "So, get the fuck out. Now."
"Eek! bye Donnie!" The Redhead scurried out the door with her head bowed.
"Crystal, wait!" Brendon called after her, but she was long gone. He glared at me. "Bitch"
I balled my fist.

"Remember not to let anger take over Mads" My dad's voice rang in my head from back when he was giving me fighting lessons. We had just finished sparring in the garage and were resting before round two.
I looked down. "Sometimes I can't help it"
"No," He shook his head, breathing heavily from our fight. "You have to keep a clear head, always"
"But Dad—"
"Madi, if you don't think rationally, yeah you might hurt the enemy a little but because your mind is all fogged up, they a greater opportunity to hurt you —or even worse, you can hurt yourself." He kissed my forehead. "Be smart angel. Think. Do that, and you'll always win both the battle and the war."

When I fought back then I only had one face in mind, and it pushed me to want to win so I could hurt him the way he hurt me. Now, I just focus on finding my enemy's weakness.
I forced myself to look into Brendon's eyes. He smirked and looked down at my chest.
The drink was clear, so it didn't leave a stain, it only made it evident that my shirt wasn't as simple as it seemed. The damp area clung to my chest like a child clinging to a parent and 'Donnie' seemed to like that.
I found his weakness.
"I'm not trying to be a bitch but as you can see, I spilled something and need to change before anyone sees" I kept my voice even.
Crystal —I think that's what he called her— had removed his shirt while they were sucking each other's faces off and threw it on the ottoman in front of the bed. His body glistened from the heat they seemed to have worked up.
"Well I saw." He bit his bottom lip and closed the gap between us. I forced myself not to panic. The first time I was cornered like this my life spiraled out of control and the last time it happened, I had no control. This time, I'm the one in charge.
"Please don't tell anyone" I tried to sound like I gave a damn.
"If you help me, I'll help you" His words were still slurred from the numerous amounts of liquor he probably chugged. That's his second weakness.
"How can I help you?" I feigned confusion and prepared myself for what's about to come next.
He pointed to his crotch.
I glanced down at the bulge pushing against his pants.
"Take it off then" I lowered my voice an octave to sound more alluring.
"Really?" His brows shot up. "Damn Madi"
I turned and sat on the bed with my back facing him as I listened to him scrambling to undress.
My eyes saw his pale feet first then traveled up to his erection.
"What the fuck?" I gasped.
