It Should Have Been Me

The lid clattered to the floor, shattering the silence. I was shocked, delighted, heartbroken, angry and ecstatic, all at the same time. I couldn't believe it! He hadn't forgotten, he wanted to surprise me! Luke Hemmings...really cared about me?

"Wow!" Was all Ashton could say. Calum and Michael were silent, especially Calum. The colour was drained from his face, he looked like a little ghost. "Wow?" I repeated, staying frozen on the bed, still clutching the box. "Is that all you can say?"

"I don't have to say anything." Ashton strode into the room and threw his damp shirt off of him and onto the floor so that it crumpled in a heap. "Its you that he's bought it for, not me."

"See if there's anything else in there." Michael came and sat on the bed next to me.

I rummaged under the dress, and found a little piece of paper. Calum shut the door behind him as I cleared my throat and read out loud.

Dear Sophie,

When you read this, you'll probably be really confused. You'll want to slap me and kiss me at the same time. (I'd prefer the second one :P) But anyway, my secret is out, here's my present to you. This, which I know you really wanted, and a special meal at Locanda Cipriana. Nothing else said. Picking you up at 7.30. I'll be waiting, Baker. :D

Silence drifted around the room. Out of the corner of my eye, I glanced at Calum. He looked like he was about to explode with either anger or tears. I felt sorry for him, almost angry at Luke. But when Michael piped up, I felt better. "Well, it looks like someone's going out on a date!" At the mention of the word 'date', Calum stalked away from us, lying back on his own bed. He whipped out his phone and stared at the screen. I suppose it wasn't my problem.

"Its not really a date..." I muttered, stroking at the silk of the dress. Although, I hoped that Michael was right. Was it a date? Was Luke really taking me on a date?

"Oh please!" Michael slapped me on the back, causing me to rock back and forth. "He's bought you this amazing dress, he's taking you to this poncy restaurant, if this isn't a date, then what is?"

He was right. Michael was right. Luke was taking me on a date! But...did that mean he had feelings for me? What if he liked me the way I liked him? What if...

"Soph!" Ashton's voice made me snap out of my thoughts. He was standing with his shirt in his hand at the bottom of my bed, grinning widely. "If he's picking you up at half seven, and its almost five now..." He gestured to the bathroom.

"Oh my God!" I sprang up from the bed, grabbing the dress box and hurrying into the bathroom. "I need to get ready!"

I spent sooo long getting ready, I'm sure I took almost 3 hours! I hopped into the shower and started to shampoo and condition my hair. When I'd finished, I used my new Soap And Glory body scrub, to remove any spots on my arms. I then rubbed the matching Soap And Glory body wash all over my body, just so that I smelled nice. When I'd finished my shower, I wrapped my hair up in my new Hair Turban, just to keep it off my face and let it dry for a while.

I slipped on my underwear and into my fluffy bathrobe. I stood at the mirror, staring at myself. A few little spots were starting to rise on my face. I splashed my face with water, and applied my Strawberry Face Mask. When it was all spread across my face, I had the sudden urge to lick myself. Don't ask why.

I set all my new makeup out in the order that I'd apply it in; concealer, foundation, powder, blush, eye shadow, eyeliner, mascara, lip gloss, and lipstick. I examined it for a while, wondering whether it was too much. Then I glanced back at my pink-strawberry-faced self, and decided that it wasn't.
