Derpcon sounded really cool... Apart from the fact that I wasn't there :(
I See The Light
"Luke! What are you doing?" I giggled as he dragged me into the kitchen. "You haven't really split your shorts, have you?"
"Nope." Luke rubbed his hands together, backing away. "Just wait here." And with that, he spun on his heel and rushed out of sight. I rolled my eyes, laughing to myself. He was such a noob.
I leaned against the counter, phone in hand. I scrolled across the pages, trying to think of something to pass the time, before finally turning on some music. When I shuffled my music, the first song to come up was 'I See The Light' from the Disney film Tangled. My dad always used to call me Rapunzel, because I had the long blonde hair, plus I was always singing around the house. I turned the volume right up and left my phone on the counter. As I sang, I waltzed round the kitchen, keeping myself busy.
"All those days, watching from the windows."
"All those years, outside looking in."
"All that time, never even knowing..."
"Just how blind I've been..."
I rummaged around in the cupboards, singing loudly to the song. I always loved it when I was home alone, I could just turn my volume up and sing my heart out. I waltzed round the kitchen, acting out the actual scene from Tangled.
"And its warm and real and bright..."
"And the wo..."
I stopped abruptly when I heard a deeper voice join in from behind me. I turned around slowly with the music still playing, my cheeks already flaming red with embarrassment. Luke was standing in the doorway, arms folded and smirking from ear to ear. I froze for a moment, not being able to move for some reason. The music had drifted into the interval by this point, where Rapunzel and Flynn were having a conversation. Well, that fitted nicely. Not.
"Say what you want." I sighed, walking over to stop the music, when Luke's hand shot out of nowhere and grabbed my phone and placed it down further away from me. "No, I like this song. I like the film too."
"Same." I hopped up onto one of the stools and glanced out the window, still listening to the music. "My dad used to pretend that I was Rapunzel. Treated me like a princess." I sighed wistfully. "Until he left."
"You know, even if he did leave, I'm sure he still loves you." Luke grabbed the stool that I was sat on and slowly started to spin it round and round. "Like a lot of people do."
I smiled at his sudden mushy attitude. "Why thank you Mr Ever So Cheesy." I giggled at the name, and so did Luke. He stopped spinning me and stepped back. "No, this is cheesy."
"All those days, chasing down a daydream..."
"All those years, living in a blur..."
"Oh my God you cannot be serious!" I buried my laughter in my hands as Luke started to sing along with Flynn. Soon in the song, there would be that romantic duet, and there was no way Luke was letting me outta this.
"Luke, we are not doing this." But he already had his phone out and placed on the counter facing us, recording what was going on. "You're recording it?!" Luke only nodded, still singing and beckoning for me to join in with him. The duet was about to start any minute. I made a big deal of rolling my eyes, but eventually joined in with him.
As I've said before, I loved the sound of mine and Luke's voice together. Although, it was pretty awkward, us standing opposite ends of the kitchen, but not for long. Luke started walking over to me, still singing, but I scampered away. I knew what he was trying to do. He ended up chasing me round and round the counter, both of us laughing in between lines. I finally jumped up onto the counter, but Luke followed, where we ended up sitting face to face, right in front of the camera.
"And its warm and real and bright..." We both sang as I crossed my legs over each other, looking down at my lap. It was almost the end of the song, and at this point I just wanted to get it over with.
A bright light suddenly hit my eyes. I squinted to look up, but I realized it wasn't the sun. It was Luke. Not actually Luke, but what he was holding. A ring. My jaw dropped in shock, and I stopped singing. We both did. The music died down and stopped. I was speechless. Completely speechless.
"It's not what you think." Luke suddenly spoke up nervously. "I'm not gonna propose or anything." He laughed to himself, but when he saw that I wasn't, he stopped. "Um..." I gently took it off him and marvelled it. It was thin and silver, decorated with the infinity sign. "It's just something for you, like a little goodbye present, to remember us. To remember me." I glanced up at him, still holding the ring between my thumb and finger. He gently took it off me again and slid it onto my ring finger. It was a perfect fit. Well, why wouldn't it be? Everything had to be perfect with Luke.
I twisted my hand, marvelling every angle that the ring shone. "And now I do see the light." I finally spoke up, squeezing Luke's hand. "Thank you."
"This doesn't mean we're married." Luke repeated, making me laugh in agreement. "I know, I know."
"Unless you want us to be." Luke's voice suddenly turned serious. My eyes darted between his, my hands still in his. We were doing it again. I literally couldn't count how many times we'd done this. The whole leaning in, just about to kiss thing. But this time, Luke looked up for it. This time, it was me that stopped it.
"I need to shower." I whispered when I was l just inches away from his face. Luke chewed on his lip, before nodding and looking down. "I mean, Paris..." I rambled on, but there was no point. Luke was annoyed. He snatched his hands from mine, clambering down from the counter. "Right." He said through gritted teeth, making his way through to the lounge.
I sighed when I heard him storming up the stairs and slamming his bedroom door. I glanced down at my ring again. I'd officially screwed up. Just when he'd done something nice for me, I had to go and make his life a misery again.
I hopped down from the counter, when I spotted Luke's phone still recording. I sighed and picked it up. "Sorry. Guess you don't get to see the happily ever after after all." I ended the video and clung to the phone as I crept up the stairs. I paused outside Luke's door, wondering if I should go in, but decided against it and made my way into my own room. I closed the door behind me and placed the phone down on my dresser, before rushing into the en suite and jumping into a cold and thoughtful shower.
When I'd finally finished and wrapped a towel around my hair and dressed in my bath robe, I sat on the edge of my bed with Luke's phone in my hand. I considered leaving him a video of me on there, but decided against it. At the sudden sound of the boys chatter growing closer. I quickly dashed to my dressing table and grabbed a pen and a ripped a piece of paper from my notebook. I scrawled a message on there and stuffed it down the back of his case, before hurrying out of my room. I crouched down outside Luke's door and pushed his phone under the door. I heard him fidget from inside his room, so I raced back into my room and slammed the door.
I lay flat on my back on my bed, listening for Luke in the next room. I heard him getting up off his bed, and then walking back to his bed. Then I felt it. Like he was talking to me, but not actually speaking. I closed my eyes and smiled, and I almost knew that he was smiling too.
