The nuke

(The first two chapters are kind of bad so just hold on )

"We have to cool it down" Jay Garrick said aloud making Barry immediately think of Caitlin and killer frost. He gave a small prideful smile and he looks to where she stood frozen in a speedsters eye.

He approached her and touched her arms, virtually zapping her out of her frozen stasis. "Ooh" she said in the cold metallic voice that made him grin slightly.

" oh there's three of you now?" She said with hidden meaning then looking to Barry, Jesse and finally, to Jay Garrick.

"We need your help... there's a bomb in that crate and it's already gone off, we have to stop it" Barry said cutting straight to the chase since he was already exhausted.

"So what? Want me to say pretty please and shake a little something?" Barry tilts his head and she gave a sarcastic shrug.

"we need you to freeze it" she laughs loudly clapping her hands twice then she looks back at Barry and he shakes his head causing her to stop laughing gradually. "Wait you're serious?"

"Yeah, can you do it?" She hesitates before she nods and he walked her to the crate his hand still holding one of her arms.

"Ooh it's warm in here" she said looking to Jesse and Jay who stood just outside the crate. "Please just..." Barry mumbles and she glanced at him before pointing her hands at it and shooting what should've been ice. It melted as soon as it got a few inches from the bomb.

"Huh?" She said quietly. She steadied herself then she tried again and Barry let out an anxious sigh.

"Performance issues?" He couldn't help but smile at the loud Scoff then she exhales deeply and almost fainted. "Cait?" He said his expression worried now.

" ooh it's really hot in here..." her eyes flickered up to him and he nods backing her out of the crate " it's your human body, you can't handle the speed for this long, I have to let you go" there was pain in his voice since he knew quite possibly this would be the last time he spoke to her.

She exhales deeply again and she grabs his arm firmly "Barry-" she said with.. worry on her face. He had never seen killer frost worried before and she for sure had never called him Barry. Just speedy or red or something else having to do with his powers.

" don't let caity die" she said staring into his eyes. He felt as if a light had just been switched on in his chest. He didn't want to let her go but if he didn't he could loose her forever.

He opens his mouth but only silent answers came out making killer frosts expression drop into seeming sadness and she pulled her arm away from his grasp freezing instantly.

"I... I'm sorry..." he whispers to her then he backs up again "we can't freeze it.. we can't breach it... what if we went back in time and stopped her from pressing the button?" Barry sounded hopeful now while he looked back to Jesse.

"No!" Jay said while sweating down intensely, he didn't look so good. "We won't be able to generate enough speed.. we need to figure something else out to get it away"

Jesse looks around the room then she looks to the nuke once then at Barry "the speed force, you tricked it into thinking you were still there right?" he gave a short nod and then he looked at Jay trying to find a silent response to how it was relevant.

" what if we tried to lure out the lightening? Think it would be enough to reverse the charge?"

They both looked to Jay and he nods once "run Barry..."

" did I do it?" He asked laying on his back on the ground breathing hard now. "Flash!" He heard joe yell then relief flooded through his body as he heard multiple sets of rapid footsteps coming toward him.

" guess who saved the city?" Killer frost said in her sarcastic tone. Barry smiles ear to ear up at her then he put a hand up and joe pulled him to his feet.

"Everyone okay?" He asked his eyes mostly on Caitlin, he saw Cisco nod out the corner of his eye then the two speedsters.

"Barry? What's happening?" He heard iris ask and then he sighs to himself " we're okay.... it's over, detective West." He nods once to his adoptive father then he looks to Cisco who got the memo and opened a breach portal for them.

Once they walked through he immediately saw Caitlin's brown hair unzipping the blue jacket she was wearing.

Barry takes his cowl off and he sighs deeply gripping the table as he almost falls over. "Barry?" Caitlin said in a worried tone and she grabbed his arm. He barley could speak as it seemed his exhaustion was finally taking hold.

"God you're burning up" Caitlin whispers quickly and she lifted him up an arm wrapping around his waist "Barry? What happened!" He could hear iris asking while she ran into the room.

A part of him did not want to talk to her right now, despite almost dying he just wanted to get his freaking check up. "I'm alright iris" he pants out before laying against the table with a heavy sigh, his eyes fluttered shut while he felt cold hands undressing his top half, must've been Caitlin since he didn't feel a wedding band scratching against him.

When he opened his eyes again there she stood in a tank top of some sort hovering her palms above his chest and cooling him down while monitoring his temp on the screen.

Iris stood next to the bed along with Cisco and Harry. "Why would they wanna bomb the city?" Iris asked, unreasonable answers of course. For power. For money. To rebuild maybe.

" I don't know..." Barry plainly responded and Caitlin looked back at him that focused doctorly look on her face. "How you feeling?" She asked genuinely concerned.

"Better, now" he smiles a little at her and iris looks between the two then back at Cisco. "Can you take a look at the bomb and see if it had any residual dark matter?" Cisco gave a short nod.

Caitlin sat in the chair next to his bed and Harry walks back in carrying a ice water with a straw " here you go Allen"

"Thanks man" Barry mumbles then he sat up slightly and started sipping it down.

"Well from what I can tell there's good news and bad news.... you are maxed out so no more super speed for a few days maybe a week or two and the dark matter in your system is virtually rebooting itself"

Barry nods to what she was saying then iris cuts in before Caitlin was finished "okay babe, that means leave the saving the day to Cisco and Cait"

Barry glances at Caitlin after that one and he saw her nose twitch in silent frustration but he didn't comment on it.

"I'll leave you two to it.." Caitlin said and she motions to Harry for him to leave as well.

"Hey... how you feeling?" Iris asked while moving a hand to rub his shoulders.

" like I've been running at top speed for an hour" she smiles widely and he gave a quiet chuckle. " I'm actually really tired so I'm gonna hit the sack" he stood up and pulled the top portion of his suit off. " could you grab my some pants and a shirt out that drawer?"

Iris nods and she walks to the corner to grab them, when she turned back around he was holding a blanket over his lap. "Do you always go commando in that suit?"

He shrugs some pulling the sweat pants on " only if it's hot out, that suit gets really stuffy.." iris laughs shaking her head then he puts the shirt on and lays back down.

" guess I leave you to it then... you rest up we got this" she leans down and kisses his head then she walks out of the room.

(Authors note: Okay what you need to know. Caitlin secretly loves Barry, Cisco and gypsy are together, killer frost knows about the kiss with the doppelgänger in season one, this story is NOT for iris lovers because I do not like her at ALL. I will repeatedly refer to them as siblings and joe as Barry's dad. I most likely will bring back Wally and Jesse to be a couple because they were friggin cute, I'll add a few original characters)
