Daddy's Little Lucy

Chapter 24 - Killing Two Birds with One Stone

After arranging our groups, we set off in different directions in search for the rare magical gem. Lucy, Wendy, Carla, Happy and I were walking through a dry area of the forest. The trees were towering over us and we could barely see the sky through the canopy. I carried Lucy in my arms as we searched through bushes and under rocks.

It was a peaceful search until we felt the ground rumble like a giant foot step. We kept our guard up as a lizard monster blocked our path. It had dark greenish grey scales with dark red markings around its back, bright yellow dragon like eyes and large black claws that could rip a man in half. It was half the size of a dragon but still big enough to destroy anything in its path.

It spotted us and let out a loud terrifying roar. This monster was going to attack us and I knew I would have to fight this monster. I quickly look over to Lucy to check how she was and she was crying. "Waaaaaaah it's a scary monster!" she cried.

I was extremely angry. I hate it when Lucy cries and this monster made her cry. The monster took a swing at us with its claws and we quickly leapt out of the way backwards. "Wendy, take care of Lucy" I said as I handed Lucy to her. Once Lucy was safe with Wendy, I leapt at the monster and slammed my Fire Dragon Iron Fist on the top of its snout.

It roared in pain and blew fire from its mouth at me. I let the flames engulf me and I ate the fire like I was slurping up some spaghetti. "Well that got a fire in my belly" I said as I patted my stomach with a sly grin on my face. The monster looked at me a little shocked like I should be ashes by now. It quickly shook off its shock and tried to bite me. I quickly side jumped out of the way of its massive teeth and boy did this monster have bad breath. "Fire Dragon Roar!" I chanted, aiming my flames at its side.

The force of my roar knocked the monster on its side. "Natsu!" I heard Happy call out to me and I turned to look at him flying towards me. He was waving a piece of paper in his hand, "Natsu that monster is the lizard monster on the request you picked the other day" he said, handing the request to me. I looked at the request and remembered it was the request I picked while we were deciding which job to take Lucy on. I thought I left this with Mira, "how did you get this request Happy?" I asked. "Mira gave it to me to hold on to and then I remembered it when I saw the monster" he explained.

The monster finally got back on its feet and roared at me in anger. I quickly gave the request back to Happy and he flew off towards Lucy, Wendy and Carla. The monster charged at me at full speed, snarling. I attacked it with a Fire Dragon Talon and hit it right between its eyes. The monster collapsed defeated and I backed away from it proudly. "Yay Daddy won!" I heard Lucy shout and I turned to see her running towards me with her arms out towards me.

I knelt down and wrapped my arms around her as she ran into my arms. As I picked her up there were coughing sounds coming from the monster. We turned to see if the monster wasn't done but it was still unconscious. It coughed two more times and then on the third cough an ocean blue colour gem came out of its mouth. "That's the gem we're looking for!" Happy exclaimed. "Talk about killing two birds with one stone" Carla commented. "Two birds and a stone?" I questioned, "it's just a metaphor Natsu" Wendy replied and I shrugged it off.

I let off a firework through a hole in the canopy, signalling to the others that we found the gem. We sat by the defeated lizard monster as we waited for our comrades to come. Lucy sat on my lap as she played pattycake with Wendy while we waited. When Erza, Gray, Sting and Rogue came into view, Lucy ran up to Gray. "Big Brother! Big Brother! Look what Daddy did!" she said happily, pointing to the lizard monster as he picked her up.

They finally noticed the massive lizard monster behind us. "What happened here?!" Sting exclaimed. "Something about two birds and a stone" I replied, "the saying is 'killing two birds with one stone'" Carla said. "What do you mean?" Gray asked and Happy showed him the request. "The stone happened to be inside the lizard which is the same one on that flyer" Carla said. "What?!" Gray and Sting exclaimed, "good job Natsu" Erza complimented.

Later that day, we were all exhausted from contacting both clients and travelling to both of their houses to collect the reward money. Now we were on our way back to Fairy Tail by train which Sting and I opposed to. It was seven votes for taking the train and two votes for walking home which was disappointing. On the train, Lucy sat on my lap and I tried my best not to puke on her. I don't want to think what older Lucy would do to me if she knew I accidently puke on little Lucy.

Sting and I cheered when the train finally stopped at Magnolia Station. As I was cheering on the platform, I felt a light tug on my pants. I looked down to see Lucy at my feet with her hands up to me. "Up please Daddy" she said and I gladly picked her up. "Hurry up Flame Brain!" Gray called out from the train station entrance. "What did you call me Ice Princess?!" I shouted back as I caught up with the rest of the group and we walked towards Fairy Tail.
