Chapter 34 - Plan S

Lucy looked shocked as she looked at all the decorations. Everyone was telling her stories of when she was a child while I was stuffing my face at the buffet table. I could see the blush on Lucy's cheeks darken in embarrassment as she heard each story. Occasionally she would hide her face when she heard something really embarrassing. Even though everyone was teasing her, some of the girls were trying to help her feel better by telling her that it was cute.

I pulled my gift for Lucy out of my pocket and looked down at it feeling a bit hesitant to tell her my feelings for her. "Is that for Lucy?" Happy asked as he appeared at my side. "Ah...yeah" I honestly told him, "what's the matter?" he asked as he noticed my hesitation. I quickly pulled him into my arms and took him outside the guild. "I'm guessing this is serious" he said as he flew out of my arms when I let go.

"I want to tell Lucy that I love her and give her this gift but what if what Kazuma said is a lie and she doesn't like me back?" I confided in him. "If you really love her than one rejection shouldn't keep you down. Carla has refused my fish hundreds of times but I never stopped and look at me now, she agreed to go on a date with me last night. I believe you can do it Natsu" he said with confidence. I felt better after talking with him and my hesitation disappeared as we walked back into the guild hall.

Everyone was still surrounding her and I knew it was going to be hard to get some alone time with her. Suddenly an idea popped into my head and I smirked at my idea. Time for Plan S, steal Lucy. I walked up to the crowd around Lucy and made my way through to her. As I stood in front of her she looked up at me. "Don't tell me you're going to tease me too Natsu?" she begged. I gave her a smirk and then quickly picked her up bridal style. Everyone gave me confused looks for about a millisecond before I used my magic to propel us over everyone and run out of the guild.

I could hear everyone behind me calling my name as I ran but as I looked over my shoulder I saw no one was following us. "Natsu put me down!" Lucy shouted and squirmed in my arms. "No way" I replied cheekily with a bright smile on my face and she seemed to quiet down after that for some reason. I took her to the lake where me and Happy fish because I thought it would be a good place to confess.

I set her down on the grass and an awkward silence developed between us. I was so nervous that I couldn't think of what to say. 'Argh! Why didn't I ask Happy before?!' I thought in a panic. "Um, Natsu... I wanted to say thank you for taking care of little me. I thought it was all a dream until everyone was retelling me everything that happened. I can't believe I call you 'Daddy', I'm sorry for everything" she said looking down, embarrassed.

"No, no, no I didn't mind at all, actually it was fun" I replied. I felt the awkward atmosphere disappeared and felt more relaxed now that the silence was broken. 'Now's the time!' I thought with determination. "Um, I brought you here because I had something to tell you" I said and she looked up at me curiously. "Ah, while you were a child I realised something" I said as I brought the gift out of my pocket. I handed her the gift and said "I love you Lucy" as she opened the box to find a necklace.

The necklace was a pink jewel pendant with a star within a flame design inside. Before Lucy became a child, I pushed my team to do jobs with the highest rewards just to save up enough money to buy it. I'm glad I finally get to give it to her. I watched anxiously as she looked me in the eyes with widen eyes and her jaw dropped slightly. She covered her mouth with the hand that wasn't holding the gift and tears started to fall down her cheeks. 'Oh no! Why is she crying?! Did I mess up?!' I thought, panicked.

"I-I love you too Natsu. I have for a while but I thought you would be too dense to notice or wouldn't feel the same way" she replied. 'She feels the same way? She feels the same way?!' I repeated in my mind. "You love me?!" I said loudly in disbelief and she nodded as she removed her hand to show me a smile. I wrapped my arms around her waist and lifted her up before spinning her around. I heard her giggle with every spin.

After a few spins, I put her down gently, cupping her cheeks and pulling her into a kiss. I felt her kiss back and I felt my heart flutter. We broke apart after needing some air and I took the necklace out of the box. "Turn around" I told her and she seemed to know what I wanted to do as she turned her back to me. She moved her hair out of the way as I place the necklace around her neck and clipped it at the back.

She put her hand on the pendant and turned to face me. "It's beautiful Natsu. I love it" she commented and hugged me. "I'm glad you love it" I replied hugging her back. We lean in for another kiss and just when our lips were about to touch, "they love~ each other" we heard Happy's voice. We abruptly separated and found Happy standing nearby with the entire guild.

"Congrats Lucy, you finally got a boyfriend!" Cana said, "yeah congratulations Lu" Levy said. "Wow who knew Fire Breath could get a girlfriend. Poor Lucy" Gray commented. "What do you mean by that Frosty?!" I exclaimed. Some of the guild laughed at my outburst and then Gramps stepped forward. "Congratulations on your relationship and now lets party!" he cheered. "Yeah!" the guild cheered back. One day when I'm married to Lucy I can become a Daddy once again to our own children and I will make you proud Igneel.
