“She isn’t going to reply…is she?” All of the hope in her voice and eyes gone completely. “Hey Hey! Give her some time” Hans said in a soft tone, pushing a loose piece of her platinum hair away from her vision before giving her a quick good morning kiss. “What do you mean give her time? It’s been a week since she supposedly received it!”
“Elsa, you need to give her time, she’s got a lot to think about”
She quickly nodded and let out a sigh, swinging her legs round and off the side of the bed “Another day of being Queen has begun…”
She was suddenly pulled back to her original position in bed. “What do you mean the day has begun, its so early, and you have two choices… can either work hard in your office all day… or…” His sentence ending with a suggesting smirk.
“Or nothing Mr Westerguard, because I have a lot of work to be getting on with. Also, I wouldn’t call 10am early”
Only a low pitch groan responded “Fine, fine… have it your way” he complained, letting her go.
After only fifteen minutes Elsa pushed the final pin into her hair. “I'm glad you decided to keep me company” Elsa said with a smile as she turned round to see her husband looking straight back at her with his hand reached out to comfort her. It didn’t take a genius to see the fear that was still set firmly in her eyes from just the thought of leaving her bedroom to live another day without seeing a fresh-faced Anna skip excitedly down the corridors.
Elsa's fingers linked with Hans’ as she let a small sigh escape. “You know, today could be the day you receive that reply you’ve been waiting for!” Hans said, trying to inject a slight bit of positivity into the situation.
Elsa's only reply was a small nod, wanting to forget the absence of her sister in Arendelle because of her own uncalled for and ridiculous decisions. “So today we are going to get it all completed right? I'm so behind on my work, the office must be a mess” Elsa stated, evading the Anna topic.
“Well I organized it… I wouldn’t say it’s a mess, more of an organized chaos” Hans chuckled which only made Elsa giggle at how predictable he was. “An organized chaos? Those two words describe everything you try and tidy up!”
Between them their laughter echoed down the corridor, which was now an unfamiliar sound to the castle walls. “So, the kingdom of Harmónia wanted to discuss becoming trading partners with Arendelle but of course I have no knowledge of their kingdom, so I thought I would leave the decision to you..” Hans said as he pushed the office door open, letting Elsa enter first. Her eyes widened slightly at the sight of the size of the stacks of paper work covering her desk nearly completely. “Well I can’t say we are particularly close with them as I'm sure you can tell, and we always have Corona to fall back on if we need a hand…But of course I'm happy to agree with whatever you decide either way”
Hans nodded as he lifted a large stack of paper work from one of the chairs sat by the desk. “No, no, I agree completely, and anyway, signing up to being trading partners always comes with a ridiculous amount of paperwork, and by the state of this office its clear to see we’re already snowed under with work…”
Elsa took a seat in her regular chair and let out an uncomfortable “mhmm” at Hans’ choice of words suddenly making Hans think over his word choice immediately. “I didn’t mean that to be funny… I meant snowed under like we have a lot of work to do and…” His voice was rushed and panicked as he scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. Elsa finally let a smile appear of her face to calm him down, but that didn’t stop him apologizing, so finally she leant across the desk to plant a gentle kiss on his lips. “Shhh” She hushed as they pulled away, “We have work to be getting on with and its impossible to focus if you don’t calm down!” Elsa laughed, pointing her index finger down to gesture for Hans to sit down, he quickly did as the queen ordered and shuffled his chair closer to the table. They both picked up the two top sheets of paper and began to sign whatever they thought felt appropriate, only the sound of turning pages and the quiet crackle of the fire that was burning, the hypnotizing flames dancing in the fire place until a heap of paper was thrown into it.
“Hans! What are you doing?! Are you insane?! You didn’t even read them all!” Elsa exclaimed, raising to her feet, her eyes not leaving the fire now filled with burning paperwork as she slammed her hands onto the desk and her jaw dropped.
Hans let out a small chuckle at Elsa’s reaction, “I didn’t need to read it, It’s…” Elsa's eyes swiftly flicked over to Hans with a glare “What do you mean you didn’t need to read it! You're a king remember… So start acting like it! This is you're job no matter how boring you find it!” Elsa growled.
Hans leant back in his chair and kicked his legs up onto the desk completely unfazed but Elsa’s outburst. “Hey, calm down Queenie” He laughed, knowing how much she hated that nickname in particular. “If you had let me finish you would have been informed that it was all letters from The Southern Isles begging to have Arendelle back”
Elsa finally let herself fall back into her chair, letting out a large sigh of relief “I swear at least one third of your life is dedicated to frustrating me.” She laughed, picking up her quill, finishing up the work left on the table.
“Well, what are the other two thirds of my life dedicated to then? Being unbelievably irresistible and an incredible husband?” He chuckled, letting his right hand run through his hair confidently. Elsa raised and eye brow at him and tried not to laugh “Not exactly, more like telling bad jokes and being an arrogant little s..”
The two of them went silent and turned to look towards the door that had just made three loud knocks. “Come in” Hans called and almost immediately the door creaked open to reveal a young and seemingly new guard as neither the king nor queen recognized him. “King Hans, Queen Elsa” He nervously announced bowing his head in respect. “I've been told to inform the two of you that the main hall will begin setting up in a few hours and you're expected to be ready for seven this evening”
Elsa furrowed her eyebrows as she began to try and remind herself of any event that had been planned for tonight but she couldn’t think of anything. She looked over at Hans as if she was expecting him to give her an answer. “Ahh yes!” Hans replied with a large grin “Is that all?” he asked, pulling his legs off the desk. The guard smiled and nod his head “Yes your majesty.”
The royal couple thanked him then remained silent until he had left, closing the door behind him.
“By the look of that smug grin on your face you have a lot of explaining to do.” Elsa said sternly, her eyes scanning his facial expression. “I just thought it would be nice if we had a little get together between the kingdoms…” Hans said with an anxious smile.
“And how many people are attending this little get together?” Elsa questioned, assuming this little get together wouldn’t be as small as she was hoping for it to be.
“Just a few hundred…” Hans mumbled, watching Elsa's reaction as she rolled her eyes and let out a groan. “Don’t complain, lets just go get ready” Hans smiled, clapping his hands excitedly, pushing himself out of his chair and reaching out his hand towards Elsa which she hesitated to take. Hans guided her out of the office door. “I have nothing to wear!” Elsa whined as they made their way back into the bedroom.
“I'm sure you have a dress that would look gorgeous on you, remember, the shorter the better” Hans chuckled, ending his flirtatious sentence with a wink. Elsa put an end to his flirting by elbowing him and rolling her eyes once again making Hans laugh even more.
