Seth's POV

I saw the guard gulp and he slowly put his hands up. I stood up from my bed and walked over to him. I swiftly smacked his head with the side of the gun and he slid down against the wall.

I ran out of the room and slid past the second guard quietly. I made it to Angélie's room.

"Seth!" She hissed. "What are you doing?"

"Getting us out of here." I said, doing a spell to disintegrate her chains. Angélie stood and rubbed her wrists.

"Thanks." She said.

I opened her bedroom window and sat on the edge of it. I let myself fall and land, bending my legs so I wouldn't hurt myself. Angélie came next, her wings fluttering out for a few seconds to lower her.

"So what's the plan?" She asked.

"We're off to the city." I said.

Clary's POV

I felt a rough hand dig into my back and shove me. Stumbling forward, I almost tripped and fell but managed to keep my balance. The door clanged shut behind me and the heavy footsteps of the guard echoed down the hall as he walked away.

I retreated to the corner of the cell and looked through the tiny barred window. There was nothing but fire, anger, and complete chaos outside. Azrael had brought me to Hell.

"You can't escape you know." A voice said, interrupting my thoughts. "The whole prison is made of shadow obsidian; the one thing Angels can't break out of down here."

The voice was young. I turned around to see a boy, about my age, standing outside my cell. His demonic blood-red eyes glowed in the darkness, like stars shining in the dark night sky.

"Who are you?" I asked. "You're much too young to be a guard. Why would they put you here?"

"They didn't." He said simply.

The boy snapped his fingers and a broken lantern that was hanging on the wall fixed itself and sprung to life. An amber flame burned brightly inside it.

The lantern slightly illuminated the room and I got a better look at the boy. He had messy, caramel-colored hair that looked as though it hadn't been washed in quite a while. He was a few inches taller than me and very skinny. But what caught my attention was his eyes. Unlike any other demon I'd met, this boy's eyes held kindness.

"I had no intention of escaping by the way." I told him, folding my arms over my chest.

He frowned.

"So you're just going to let them do whatever they want with you? Even use you as a weapon?"

"Of course not!" I scoffed. "But I'm not going to try and escape when nothing I do will work. You just said yourself this place is angel-proof."

The boy stared at me for a good while, as if he thought looking hard enough would make me and my words make sense.

"What's your name?" I asked him hesitantly.

The boy froze. He looked as though he was fighting a battle against himself in his head, trying to decide whether or not to tell me his name.

Suddenly we both heard the sound of footsteps coming down stairs.

"It's Mitchell." He said quickly, before vanishing into the darkness.
