Julia's POV
No matter what we did, Angélie would not let go of Rome. She had been hugging him for almost twenty minutes when Seth finally brought the fact that Clary was still missing back to her attention. Now we're starting to make a plan, until being so rudely interrupted.
Briiiiiiiiing!
Everyone shot Maggie accusing stares as her phone interrupted our conversation. She smiled sheepishly and stepped into an alley way to take her call. After a few minutes, she popped her head out from behind the wall. With the phone held to her ear with her shoulder, Maggie dragged Carly away with her. The second girl gave a shrug before she disappeared around the corner with her friend. They returned a few minutes later with frowns on their faces.
"Our parents want us home." Carly said.
"What!? Not now! We need you guys!" Tara exclaimed.
"Yeah, but our parents won't hear anything about it. Apparently Marcus notified our families." Maggie said glumly.
"Trust us, there's no way we want to leave, but our parents said if we aren't back in fifteen minutes they're calling the police; and the police coming for us will most likely lead to all of you getting caught too." Carly explained.
I looked at Tara and she sighed, giving me a sad smile. Maggie and Carly had to go; there was nothing we could do about that.
"You guys better get your butts back here as soon as you can." I said.
"Pffff! Wouldn't miss it for the world, which we'll probably have to save..." Maggie said, grinning creepily.
"Later!" Carly called.
We watched the two ninjas get a running start and they easily scaled one of the tall buildings in less than a minute. We watched their silhouettes dash across the roof tops until they were lost to our line of sight.
"Well, we lost two soldiers, but gained two as well." Angélie said, trying to sound optimistic.
"Yeah, but Maggie and Carly should be here." Tara pointed out.
"Look on the bright side," Chris began, "they said they'll be back."
"True." I agreed.
Suddenly a giant, black cloud opened up above the center of the city. Winds whipped up at impossible speeds and violet lightning danced in the sky. From the cloud, descended a group of beings with ragged, menacing, coal black wings. Demons. And Lilith, with Azrael by her side, was in the lead.
Clary's POV
Mitchell and I had been walking through the ninja's part of the city when the cloud appeared. I saw every muscle in Mitchell's body tense up.
"What is that..." I whispered.
"Demons, and they're coming for us."
"You mean you?"
"No, us."
"Jeez what do they even want with me anyway?" I grumbled, not really expecting an answer.
I crossed my arms over my chest and turned to look at Mitchell. His cheeks were pink and he looked flustered.
"What?" I asked.
Silence.
"What is it?"
Still silence.
"MITCH YOU BETTER TELL ME WHAT'S WRONG OR SO HELP ME I WILL-"
"Ok, ok, alright. Sorry it's just... Embarrassing." He finally forced out.
"Oh... Sorry. You don't have to tell me anymore."
"No, you deserve to know."
Mitchell took a deep breath and looked me dead in the eye. He really did look good with caramel colored eyes.
"The demons want you to marry me. Being the demon prince and all, they think if you're my queen we'll have ultimate power or something ridiculous like that." Mitchell said bitterly.
I blinked, completely stunned. I was not expecting marriage of all things.
"How old are you?" I asked.
"Twelve."
"I'm ten! They're seriously planning something like this with our young age!?"
"Yes, and no. They were working on something to age us faster I don't really know... It's along those lines. I've only ever heard bits and pieces of the conversations." Mitchell admitted.
"Hey, some information is better than none." I said. "Thanks."
"No problem. By the way, I don't mind you calling me Mitch. Mitchell sounds too... I don't know it's just long and every time someone says it I hear it in a regal way. I don't want to hear my name like that anymore."
"You got it, Mitch." I said with a smile.
A demon marrying someone who's half human and half angel... Was that even possible? Either way, it didn't matter. As long as Mitch was on my side, we would agree on our future together. There would not be any forced marriages, any time soon.
Pushing the conversation from my head, I looked back up at the menacing cloud in the sky.
"We have to do something." Mitch said.
Now it was my turn to be embarrassed.
"But... I don't even know how to fly yet." I explained.
"I'll teach you; we'll go together."
