I stood in disbelief and utter confusion on what the hell had just happened; watching sadly as Tate walked away with his head down.
There were so many questions forming in my head, and I wanted to ask every single one of them at once but I couldn't formulate the right words. Instead of trying, I turned to face Sage and Matty.
"What the fuck was that?" I asked, anger and annoyance evident in my tone as my eyes shifted between the two of them.
"Don't worry about it. It doesn't concern you." Matty answered.
I rolled my eyes, "Tate is My friend, Matthew." I said, using his first name. "And I don't appreciate when someone treats my friend like that." I stated. "Especially when they hadn't done anything wrong."
"He did do something wrong, Skyler." Matty responded quickly, tightening his hold around Sage.
"What? Sitting under the tree? It's not a crime to sit under a tree, Matty." I explained, my annoyance with his behavior growing rapidly.
"That's not it." Matty gritted his teeth, holding back from telling me exactly what it is he did wrong.
"Then what, Matty? Sitting beside me? You don't own me, Matty. He can sit by me if he wants." I said.
"There's more to it than that, Skyler. You don't understand." He said, holding himself back from yelling.
"Then please, do me the honor of telling me what that is!" I yelled, causing people to turn and look at us.
"Skyler... please lower your voice.. People are staring." Sage said softly as she noticed everyone's attention on us.
"I don't care, Sage!" I yelled, throwing my arms up. "Let them stare! Maybe then everyone here can know what the hell happened!"
Sage looked at the ground in embarrassment, and all it took was a sharp look from Matty to turn everyone's attention away from us.
I shook my head, "I really can't believe that you would allow your boyfriend to treat another person like that." I said, brushing myself off. "I guess I really don't know you at all, Sage." I said, grabbing my backpack.
"Sky... it's not like that, just give me a second and I can explain it all to y-" Sage began to speak but I cut her off.
"I'll see you later, Sage." I said, walking away still confused by everything.
"Skyler wait!" I heard Sage call for me in the distance. "Leave it, Sage." Matty stopped her.

After school I saw Tate walking home.
"Hey! Tate! Wait up!" I called for him.
He stopped to wait for me as I jogged up to him.
"Hey, I just wanna say that I'm sorry for what happened earlier." I said as we began walking. "I don't really know went on between you guys, but that still doesn't make it okay for Matty to treat you like that." I explained.
Tate shook his head, "There's no need to apologize, Skyler." Tate said as he shoved his hands into his front pockets. "You did nothing wrong."
I nodded as we continued to walk in silence.
Tate had been a close friend of mine since Kindergarten. He had always been a shy and quiet kid; didn't have many friends other than me and another little boy who I can't really remember anymore.
Despite Tate having been quiet, he was always a pretty fun and hyper kid. He was always so happy... I don't remember what exactly it was, but something happened the summer before going into the Second grade. That's when Tate changed; when I became his only friend.
