Sage was twenty weeks pregnant, and after begging and pleading to find out the sex of the baby, Sage finally agreed. Today, we were going to find out.

I sat in the waiting room giddy with anticipation.

"Babe calm down." Sage giggled at me.

"I can't!" I sighed with a smile. Everything in me was moving a thousand miles a minute and I couldn't contain myself.

When it was time for us to go inside I was even more excited, watching the ultrasound take place.

"Would you like to know the sex of th-" The nurse began.

"YES!" I cut her off, overwhelmed with anticipation.

The nurse smiled, "I figured as much. Okay, so, it looks like you guys are having an," She paused for dramatic effect, my heart racing. "Girl!"

I nearly passed out from the news. We were having a girl. I was going to have a daughter. A beautiful and precious, delicate baby girl.

Tears began forming in my eyes as I shot up out of my chair and rushed over to hug Sage.

"We're having a girl." I whispered into her ear as a single tear fell my from eye.

Sage sat on her bed as I sat on the floor, trying to figure out how to assemble the baby furniture her mother had gotten for us.

I refused to allow my mother to be involved in Sage's pregnancy, so we hadn't received anything from her. Both Sage and her mother insisted that once our baby girl was born I should move in and live here with them, and I wasn't at all opposed to that idea.

"I don't think that's supposed to work like that." Sage said as she watched me struggle to connect parts of the crib.

I sighed in frustration, throwing the pieces to the ground. "Well fuck! I don't know what to do then!"

She sighed, lifting herself off the bed before walking over to where I sat on the floor.

She used my shoulder for support as she struggled to sit down beside me, helping me to read the instructions.

"That goes there." She said, pointing to the items. "And then you screw those together before attaching that one over there."

I looked over the instructions once more only to find that she was right; Sage is always right.

I threw my head back in frustration, "God dammit." I groaned. "I'm a poor excuse of a man." I sighed, my head resting in my hands as disappointment washed over me.

"That's not true." Sage corrected, placing a hand on my back. "Most men are terrible at reading instructions! So don't take it personally babe." She said trying to console me rather sarcastically.

"Wow thanks, Sage." I laughed, rolling my eyes.

She smiled before pressing her lips to my cheek. She rested her head on my shoulder as she wrapped her arms around mine, hugging it close to her body. "Are you nervous?" She asked.

"About having a baby?" I asked with a sigh as I rested my head against hers. "Yes and no." I answered, "I'm nervous because I want to be a good father but I don't know if I can be." I explained.

"Don't say that, Tate." Sage said with sadness in her voice. "You're going to be a great father!"

"Thanks, Sage." I chuckled softly, "I just hope that ends up being true."

"It will be. You'll see."

We sat on the floor together for a couple more minutes. We were silent, analyzing the mess before us.
