Your POV
———

I cross my arms and listen to the captain, rolling my eyes as Vixon nudges me playfully. I give her a glare, trying to tell her to 'shut up and pay attention.' She pouts and stops, finally listening to the captain as well. But not without muttering, "Buzzkill."

I ignore the comment.

"News has it that there's been a surge of fights going around," Captain Felgate informs us, and I quirk an eyebrow.

"Status?" Vortex asks.

"Lethal," I reply, taking a guess. Captain nods my way.

"Hold on, Glyph got it right?" Apex deadpans from my left, and I shove him jokingly. Though my push made him fall to the ground, as he wasn't expecting it.

I snort as Apex glares at me. I can see the teasing fire in his eyes, and I feel the electricity at my fingertips.

"Boys," Vixon interrupts, stepping between us as Apex stands up. She continues, "We don't need another one of your power battles, though I wouldn't mind seeing Glyph kick your ass, Apex."

He huffs with a roll of his eyes as Vixon winks at me. I know she only said that because she's expressed to me before that she loves watching me fight, based on how I look 'attractive when I move certain ways.' Her words, not mine.

I shake my head and look away, glancing down at my hands. I control my powers and the electricity current disappears from my fingers. The fire leaves Apex's eyes.

We understand that Vixon is right, that the mission is what is most important.

"Besides, you both would likely cancel one another out. Aren't electricity and fire practically the same thing, anyway?" Vortex inquires. I glare at him.

"Electricity isn't the same as fire, you moron," I scoff with a slight snarl, shaking my head. "Aren't you supposed to be the smart one here?"

Vortex chuckles, then smirks mischievously at me, "Yes. I only said it because I knew it would get you riled up."

"Enough," Captain orders, and everyone shuts up. "We have a mission to complete."

"You're no fun, Captain," Vixon rolls her eyes playfully. Captain gives her a sharp look.

"Anyway, we will go in partners—" he gets cut off by Vixon gripping my arm.

She yells, "I call Glyph!"

"No!" Captain exclaims, rubbing his temples as I try to remove my arm from her, controlling my powers as not to give her an electric shock (despite how much I'd want to do so).

He sighs and orders, "Vixon, you will be partnered up with Apex and me. Vortex and Glyph will also be partners."

Vixon pouts and finally lets me go. "Why can't I be paired up with Glyph?"
