Chapter Eighteen
"Your father, Mr. Klaus, was a man of not too many friends," Pogo stayed walking around the room. He had walked the two to Hargreeves bedroom, Pogo made his way to the side of the bed, the bedside table had a single book on it as he lifted it and brought it to Hex. He placed it in her hands as Klaus perched over her shoulder.
Glancing at the title she rose a brow. A study in Super-humans.
"Theodore Anderson?" She said as he nodded. "Did you know? D-Did you know that he was my grandfather?"
"Took many years, but I had my suspicions," he started, "however— there was a time."
Hex looked to him and bit her lip.
"Your mother came by when you had just been born, she had begged Mr. Hargreeves to take you since the two of you were living in boxes." He started, "seems like your grandparents had kicked your mother and you out due to your birth— just as many of the Hargreeves children would have been if they weren't given up-"
"Did my mom-"
Pogo looked to his feet which made Klaus trail off from his question. It really wasn't a good question to answer either way.
Hex enclosed her fists. Her grandparents were true assholes. Her mother died because a miraculous miracle had happened.
"He let her move in— and the two of you stayed here for months-"
"Then why was I on the alleyway growing up, Pogo? Why did my mother die in my arms?"
"Your powers were more noticeable than the rest of the children," Pogo stated, "however, you weren't one of the academy-"
"So that old dick kicked my mother and me out?"
Pogo cleared his throat as Hex took a step back. She had crossed a line, even if she had a right to.
"Mr. Hargreeves had noticed you being very close to one of his own kids," he said as he looked to Klaus.
"Me?" Klaus started, "we were close?"
"From the very beginning," Pogo stated almost seeming like he was smiling. He looked at the two of their hands as Hex held his hand tighter.
"Was he afraid that I would hurt him?" She asked as Pogo shrugged.
"There had to be many reasons as to why he had the two of you kicked out, but I believe it had to be more about your grandfathers and Mr. Hargreeves past."
Hex looked back to him as Klaus giggled. Hex looked to her feet. She shook her head.
"You expect us to believe that?"
"You don't have to, but I do have footage," he said walking out of the room. The two followed behind him as Hex but her lip.
They all walked to the room with the many TV screens. Pogo placed a VHS tape in as Klaus walked to Hex, who sat in the chair. She watched as a small girl appeared on the tv. She made her way to a small boy with black curly hair. He held onto a small toy as she reached for it.
