"You found a toddler on patrol and you brought it here!?" Artemis yelled at him. Dick shrugged before looking down at the kid he was holding. The kid was about three years old and was passed out against Dick's shoulder. He had put the kid in a Batman shirt. The shirt covered him passed his feet.
"I couldn't just leave him on the street. He was really cold and cute as heckle!" The acrobat defended himself, "If I brought him to my house Bruce would watch the security footage and flip out. And I guess you're my girlfriend, not official yet because you're a stubborn bitch, but you seemed like a logical choice."
"I am not a stubborn bitch," The blonde sighed. She pinched the bridge of her nose and thought about what she should do. It was too late to call the cops and Dick didn't patrol in California anyway.
"Do you have cereal?" Dick frowned as he rubbed the child's back, "I don't know what kids eat and he's hungry."
"Yeah, I got cereal," Artemis gave Dick a small smile to reassure him and got up from her couch.
After a few moments of silence Artemis sighed. "Good news: I have cereal. Bad news is that Jade ate all the marshmallows," She said as she pulled out a bag of Lucky Charms.
"What type of monster eats all the marshmallows?" Dick chuckled. He leaned back on couch and closed his eyes. The kid's sleepiness was rubbing off on him. He opened his eyes again when Artemis walked back into her living room and placed three bowls of cereal on her coffee table.
Dick sat back up and gently tugged on the kid's shirt. "Hey buddy, time to wake up." The child took one hand off of Dick's shoulder and rubbed his eyes with his fist. Artemis felt her lips tug upwards but she forced them back down.
"Where are we?" The kid muttered as he pulled away from Dick's shoulder.
"We're at someone special's house," Dick answered. He pointed to the blonde and she waved at the kid. The kid waved back with his little hand and his other one rubbed his eyes.
"I'm Artemis," She said, "What's your name?"
"I-I'm John," The toddler answered. "I'm this many," John held up four fingers and smiled at Artemis.
"Very cool. I'm too many," The archer chuckled, "Are you hungry?" The kid nodded and peeled himself away from Dick. Dick smiled and moved down to the floor so he could eat his cereal too. Artemis moved closer to the table and handed John his bowl. He took it into his lap and started to eat.
"John, do you know who your mommy and daddy are?" Dick asked the kid. Artemis could tell by the look in his eyes that he was thinking about his father.
"No, but there is this mean lady. Her name is Ms. Ryan. She would watch over me but she left me when we went to the park," John said with a bunch of cereal in his mouth. Usually it would be gross but Artemis thought it was cute.
"You don't have a mommy and daddy?" Artemis asked. John shook his head and pouted.
"Is that bad?"
"No, I don't have a mommy or daddy either," Dick gave the kid a reassuring look and took a spoonful of cereal into his mouth. He looked at the archer and frowned, "You need marshmallows."
"I know," She shrugged. She looked at the kid and then back at her (unofficial) boyfriend. They kinda looked alike. John had pale skin and black hair like Dick. Their eye shape and noses were also similar. The only difference were the ears and John's green eyes.
"What's wrong?" The four year old asked when he noticed her staring.
"Nothing, you two just look like," Artemis chuckled when both boys' eyes lit up.
"We do!" Dick exclaimed.
"Does that mean I can be Nightwing!?" John asked with overwhelming happiness.
