Kazuha and Heiji are both pining.

"Dude", one of Heiji's teammates places himself on his desk and stared right through his eyes. Heiji made an annoyed huff before reacting back. "What."

"What happened to you during training? Something was clearly bothering you, otherwise I cannot find another explanation for your bad performance today. Stress with school? With your parents? Kazuha-chan?"

Heiji wanted his teammate to shut the hell up but he knew he would receive a never ending teasing. Both were aware of Heiji's open crush on Kazuha. Both were aware that she definitely reciprocated his feelings. Both also kissed once while no one was paying attention at them. But did Heiji and Kazuha ever talk about this? Obviously not.

"Dude, I suggest to finally tell that gal how you feel. Or do you wanna neglect your training this bad and get defeated by Okita?"

"Please", Heiji huffed back. "It would take a lot more to break my spirit. I will definitely win against him!"

"Not in your current state, Hattori-kun."

"Shut the fuck up."

When Heiji was training with his wooden sword after school, a familiar figure appeared in front of him. He slowly raised his head and felt his cheeks blushing while staring at Kazuha in her Aikido attire.

The girl looked like she was searching for him, even though she probably knew where he would spend his time after school. The training ground was simply the best place to practise, with a ground that was not too soft but not too hard either.

It was also warm outside, so Heiji was sweating after a while. But to his relief, Kazuha looked like she trained too.

Or more like she tried to but something was clearly bothering her, leading to an interruption of her training. Heiji started to get nervous.

"Uhm. Is there anything I can do for you?", he asked after a long moment of silence.

"We need to talk", Kazuha responded with a serious face. Heiji felt like his assumptions were right.

She didn't catch a word about his previous conversation with his teammate, didn't she? If so, he probably needed to face some embarrassment.

"Oh, okay, but as you can see, I'm-"

"N. O. W." Kazuha spelled the letters in impatience and Heiji started to shiver by the amount determination her voice carried.

"Alright, alright", he relented. "What can I do for you?"

Kazuha decided that now it was the perfect time to become anxious. She broke the eye contact with Heiji, stared at her fingers and started to play with them awkwardly.

"You know", she said then. "A lot of stuff is happening and I kinda think it is better if we talk about it? Leaving things unspoken isn't going to help us?"

"Is that a statement or a question?", Heiji asked back with a mischievous grin, earning a glare from his crush.

"Please don't play cute with me, you buffoon! Don't tell me that kiss didn't mean anything to you!"

"Wait, hold up!" Heiji narrowed his eyebrows. Damn, his teammate was right, someone was bound to jump into conclusions if they would now have "The Talk." And it this case, Kazuha had it first.

He carefully dropped his sword on the ground, wiped the sweat off his face and crossed arms.

"Do you really think I would kiss people I don't even care for? On top on that, giving people I don't care for my first kiss? Nah, doesn't work like that', Kazuha."

"I just thought—" she didn't finished her sentence, instead she started pouting in an adorable way. Heiji snickered before grabbing Kazuhas arm and pulling her close.

Their faces were close, lips almost touching when Heiji mumbled: "All I can say is that I enjoyed kissing you the other day. How about we repeat it right now? And if you're lucky, you might find out what I think about you."

Kazuha nodded with a heavy breath and rested her arms on his neck. When they finally kissed, it felt like all the doubts immediately vanished and got replaced with warm and fuzzy feelings.
