When Sonoko takes the new witch-in-training called Kazuha under her wing, she certainly hadn't anticipated that things would become more troublesome.
Warnings: grammar mistakes.
Guys, I am so sorry for not posting for almost three months. I'll explain in the ending notes, even if it is not a proper apology.
This is a fic I wrote for DCMK Rarepair Week, Prompt: Fantasy.•••
There was the thing with spur-of-the-moment situations- either it will turn out to be the greatest decision someone could ever make, or it is going to end up with someone having deep regrets about it.
Sonoko hoped that the decision she had made would be the former, even though all things showed signs that she'll curse herself for having a big heart.
It especially showed, when she heard the sound of glass falling onto the ground with a loud sound, she could practically feel the big carafe bursting into a million pieces, and if she was lucky, it probably contained a mixture she had spent a long time, including sweat and tears to create it. Sonoko sighed, before she placed a bookmark in her book she had read until now and closing it.
She got up from the chair and hastily went down the stairs to see what her newest apprentice had now caused. Anticipating the worst, Sonoko opened the door to the room, where all her books, created stocks, elixirs and more utensils were located.
In the middle of the room was the disaster. The dark blue liquid basically spread across the place, smearing the floor, certain documents were dunked with it, and the amount of sprinkles also decorating the whole space indicated that it would take her several hours to clean the room.
Sonoko's apprentice Kazuha Toyama was on her knees, her palms were coloured with the dark ink. Lucky for her, she was wearing a dark green dress, so even if her clothes had gotten the colour on it, it would not stand out so much.
Kazuha was staring at the mess she had caused in despair when her master had entered the room. Now she was facing Sonoko with absolute fear in her eyes, her lips were trembling, and she also tried to hide her shaking hands behind her back.
The witch closed her eyes, rubbed her temple, and then approached the terrified girl. "You are going to tell me what exactly had caused the mess, while we're trying to clean everything and save some of my documents. We need to try how to bring the damage to a minimum."
"Wait, you're not mad at me? I probably destroyed some of your important works!", Kazuha asked, pointing with her index finger at the stand with the in liquid drained documents. Sonoko could already make out that some of the paper she had written were now unusable and noted in her head to purchase waterproof writing material the next time she was at the little store of Ran's she liked to buy at.
Besides, how could she be mad at her apprentice? Sure, Kazuha was extremely ditzy, to the point that someone might think she tried to sabotage them, but Sonoko knew it wasn't intentional. Well, at least that's what she tried to convince herself, but she really didn't seem like someone who had evil intentions.
There was a reason why the witch had decided to take her in. A part of Sonoko felt pity for the younger girl, because she had desperately tried to find a master where she could go under through a schooling to become a proper witch, but from what Kazuha had told her, her previous masters couldn't handle her chaotic nature and ended the contract within a week, leaving her heartbroken. Kazuha had considered just accepting a friend's offer to become a witch, even if he already was training someone else, when she had encountered Sonoko.
In her nearly twenty years of training people to become witches, lecturing Kazuha was probably the most adventurous one. The student not being much younger than herself, yet still was professing in martial arts for a long time before her power had awaken. It was almost a given that Kazuha was not experienced in her field, yet her former teachers expected to work with someone having the same level of experiences as themselves or Sonoko.
