Two words: fuck cancer.

Warnings: grammar mistakes, major character death, angst, hurt/comfort

Tw: a sickfic, mentions of vomiting, blood, death.

So, I was halfway writing it when I realised that I am about to give you a sickfic? And some parts are very descriptive, even I shuddered when I was rereading it. Consider this as a warning, I guess.

It was on a cold and windy day and Shinichi was sitting on the sofa, waiting for the arrival of two of his favourite people, when he had once again started to cough uncontrollably. And even though it was something that occurred more than often, he still was surprised by the sudden outburst, calming himself down after it stops, only to get another coughing fit again. Tears were already spreading across his face, he feared that he might even started to vomit, and not even huge sips of water he poured down his throat could lessen the growing pain in his chest.

"-And what else did you do today?" He heard his wife Ran asking their daughter Etsuko when they were entering their house. Ran had left earlier to pick the three-year-old child from the kindergarten.

She eventually stopped listening to whatever Etsuko was saying now, when she saw her husband now on the ground, still coughing and trying to catch his breath. To her, it probably looked like he was about to suffocate on something.

Shinichi briefly lifted his head, only to see the obvious shock and panic written on his wife's face. And only because he couldn't bear to stare at the horrified expression of hers longer, he faced the ground again, his fist clenching so hard, it turned white and the feeling that the current aching was all over his body now.

"Shinichi!", Ran yelled, dropped her handbag on the floor and quickly ran over to him. She grabbed his face and copped his cheeks with her hands to inspect his face further. When Ran felt and saw his tears, she thought that her heart was about to stop. The panic was now about to overcome her, especially when Shinichi's face still became redder with each second, and when he suddenly spit on the floor, Ran was definitely certain that her heart stopped beating for a moment.

But she needed to calm down, the last thing they needed was her agitation growing bigger until she wasn't able to overcome it quickly. The main focus was to stop Shinichi's coughing fit, especially when he continued spitting on the ground, now turning away from her. When Ran peeked over his shoulder to see, she could feel how her heart started to throb harshly, could feel it with her whole body.

Bloody phlegm was dirtying the floor, and it was not a small amount. When Shinichi turned his head again and was now facing his wife again, they stared at each other with wide eyes. And it was not until both head an audible gasp, they remembered that Etsuko was still standing at the entrance of their house.

Shinichi and Ran now decided to spare their daughter a look, the small child was staring back at them with obvious fear in her widened eyes. Ran could feel how Shinichi started to shift his legs, probably to hide the bloody proof that things are not okay right now.

Ran exhaled lightly in relief when Shinichi's coughing attack finally started to subdue. He quickly grabbed a handkerchief to wipe the dark sputum off the floor, before laughing loudly, startling wife and daughter.

"Man, that was something! I should've not eating the cake so hastily. See, Etsuko? That happens when you don't eat your food slowly and carefully." His voice sounded hoarse and Shinichi wanted to clear his throat yet feared that this action might trigger another coughing fit.

Etsuko nodded slowly, before she took her shoes off and her feet made cute tapping noises, as she approached her parents. "So, you just choked on food?", she asked, her voice so small that Ran wanted to let go of her husband and hug her daughter instead.
