Heiji visits Shinichi after a dangerous murder case.

Heiji x Shinichi

Warnings: grammar mistakes, a small bit of cussing, fluff and angst (I guess)

"So? What are you doing here again?", Shinichi grumbled as he head back to his huge library. He was currently invested in reading his favourite Sherlock Holmes novel for the umpteenth time, when the doorbell didn't want to stop ringing.

"If I knew it was you, I wouldn't have opened the door and continued reading", he added, knowing that these words would annoy his visitor.

"Shut the fuck up. You know I would've let myself in", Heiji snarled back.

Shinichi smirked, before he eyed him in surprise. His guest was soaked in water, even Heiji's hair was dripping drops on the floor and dirt was clinging on his clothes.

"What exactly happened that you look... like that?", he enquired in curiosity. Heiji huffed.

"I don't know if you noticed it, but it's heavenly raining and storming right now. And I might have tripped and fell into a puddle while running all the way to your place.

Shinichi grinned. Heiji looked so adorable with his exasperated expression, and if it weren't for the current situation, he would've laughed. Instead, he frowned and took a few steps back.

"There's no way I'm hugging you in this state. You know where the bathroom is. And I suppose you've taken some change with you? Otherwise call me when you're done."

"Alright", Heiji grumbled and went upstairs. Shinichi decided to postpone his reading session and went to the kitchen to prepare tea.

He was unable to hide the font smile, because he was happy that Heiji visited him. A lot of time has passed since the last time they've seen each other and there were so many things to talk about, like the recent dangerous case which led to a broken arm for Heiji.

A loud growl from outside interrupted his thoughts. He peeked outside and his eyes widened.

Was he so invested with his book that he didn't notice the thunderstorm? The rain was pladdering loud, the wind cried across the empty street and Shinichi could've sworn that he saw several birds flying uncontrollably. A glance at the clock showed that it was only two in the afternoon, even though it was already pretty dark outside.

Is this why Ran decide to cancel our meeting, Shinichi thought whilst putting the tea and biscuits on a tablet and bringing them in the living room. He decided to rest on the couch before Heiji came back, when two warm arms wrapped around his waist and a familiar head rested on his neck.

"I missed you", Heiji murmured.

"Likewise. How's your arm doing?"

Heiji shifted nervously. "Surprisingly well, it doesn't hurt anymore. Gotta need a bandage, but I can probably fully utilise it in a few weeks. If me falling on the ground earlier hasn't caused a setback."

"I see", Shinichi whispered. "Sounds awesome."

"Alright, drop the hostility. I know what you're thinking."

Shinichi sighed Listen, I was so worried when Kazuha-chan called and told me what happened on that murder case of yours. Please don't scare me like that again. I was actually worrying about you."

Shinichi remembered when he saw the news and amateur footages of Heiji fighting against a gang. Even though he fully trusted the western detective, Shinichi had to admit that the fight looked pretty intense and had hoped for Heiji to survive the tough situation.

"I'm sorry for making you worry." Heiji let go of Shinichi and turned him around, so that they were facing each other. Heiji was dressed in a white T-shirt and shorts and his hair was still wet. Shinichi softly inhaled the scent of his shampoo.

Their foreheads were bumping and Heiji put his hands on Shinichi's shoulders. "There's no way I'm going to die without telling goodbye first. I promise."

Heiji closed the last centimetre with a chaste kiss, which Shinichi naturally obliged. He placed his arms around Heiji's neck and pulled him closer to his body.

To be finally able to let his worries and doubts go made Shinichi feel relieved. It was so good to see his fellow detective in an almost healthy state. He know that Heiji was also constantly worrying about his state whenever the murder case gets bizarre and intense.

It was also funny how both of them were confident in the other's detective skills, yet still hoping that they would make it out alive. Shinichi thought it was exhilarating and exhausting at the same time. But would they change that? Never.

When they parted after a short amount of time, their foreheads bumped together again and Shinichi was finally able to crack a fond smile. His hand was caressing Heiji's soft and still warm cheek and Heiji closed his eyes whilst he put his hand on Shinichi's. He also was unable to hide his fond smile.

"You better keep that promise", Shinichi mumbled against Heiji's ears.

"Always", the western detective declared.
