One meeting changes everything.

Ran x Shinichi

Warnings: grammar mistakes, sap, probably a bit rushed, but this is still one of my favourite ShinRan chapters.

And again, Ran and Shinichi haven't met before, just for the sake of this plot.

Day one

Probably one tiny negative aspect about living alone is the parents not waking up the child.

Shinichi would have never thought that he would miss the sound of Professor Agasa's failed inventions, his mother's gently shaking or his father's soft claps with his books waking him up.

Since he moved out of his family home to live near his university, he had a tough time to become accustomed to this new life. Which was surprising since it wasn't like he didn't live alone before. Due to his parents travelling around the would, he spent most of his teenage years taking care of himself.

But still — it was different.

Like today, when he woke up, checked his watch and sow that it was 8:30 in the morning. A few seconds later had passed until he realised that his lesson had started half an hour ago.

Shinichi, now fully awake, shrieked, jumped off his bed and ran to the bathroom to prepare himself.

How did this happen? Did he ignore his alarm? Did he even set one in the first place?

Shinichi decided that it wouldn't make sense to hurry, since he would arrive by the time the lesson was already over. He checked his timetable and sighed in relief when he saw he didn't missed one of the mandatory courses.

But still, he will not let it happen again, Shinichi thought when he left his apartment and made his way to the bus station.

The current weather matched with his mood. Thick, grey clouds were covering the sun, the cold wind made him shudder and Shinichi started to groan when he felt the first raindrops on his face.

"Great", he hissed. And it was too late to turn back to his apartment and get an umbrella because his bus came any minute. Maybe he should just head back home and skip the whole day.

All of sudden, the rain stopped. At least around Shinichi. He looked up to make eye contact with a person he had never seen before.

She was holding a rather big and white umbrella which was decorated in several blue dots. The girl gave him a rather flashy smile, before she opened her mouth.

"There you go! Luckily, about four people are able to fit under my umbrella."

Shinichi still stared at her dumbfounded, before he regained himself and murmured a "Thank you so much."

Day three

"This is why I keep telling you that we should live together, Kudou. I bet your life would be much easier!"

"And I also keep telling you that us living together would end up in a disaster. Even though I wouldn't mind having you around, even you need to acknowledge that it will not work out."

Heiji sighed deeply. "Fine, but then do something about your organisation. Isn't it embarrassing for you to always come late to your lessons?"

"Of course, but I can't help it. It takes a while for me to grow accustomed to any new situation."

Not only it was annoying that he had to get used to silence in the morning - his best friend didn't help with his pestering. Heiji was right, that there had to be a way to not get up late and embarrassing himself when entering the lecture more than half an hour later. His professor want really amused anyway.
