The smell of plastic toys and pet food hit your nose as soon as you stepped into the local pet store. After months of debating and planning, you'd finally made up your mind, deciding that it was time for you to adopt a dog. Living alone was nice and all, but there were moments of loneliness and having a companion to keep you company was something you needed.

"Hello!" The chipper voice of the cashier greeted you.
"Hi." You responded, spring a fleeting glance at the man behind the counter.
You had to do a double take because of how cute he was, not expecting someone with his level of visuals to work at a pet store.
Focus. You reminded yourself, tearing your eyes away and proceeding with why you went there in the first place.

You went to the back where they kept the dogs and started looking around, some of the puppies jumping excitedly in their kennels.
"Hi babies." You cooed and stuck your finger in one of the cages, letting the puppy lick it. "You're so adorable."
"Yeah, I get that a lot." A second voice spoke.
You jumped and spun around to see the cute cashier standing behind you.
"What?" Was all you could say.
"I'm kidding." He chuckled, dismissing his earlier comment. "Do you need help with anything?"
You glanced down at his name tag, which made him realize he hadn't introduced himself.
"Oh right. I'm Hoseok, I work here... which you already knew." He chuckled nervously and rubbed the back of his neck.
His behavior made you chortle softly under your breath. "I'm Y/n."
His face lit up, his embarrassment melting away.
"So, Y/n, is there anything I can help you with today?" He asked.
"I came here to adopt a dog."
"Is there a certain breed you're looking for?"
"Yes, but it honestly doesn't matter. I love all dogs." You responded with a smile, gazing at the variety of adorable canines.
"How about these over here?" He questioned, leading you over to a different section of the store.
You gasped softly, silently gushing over how adorable they all were, your heart thudding with endearment and adoration.
"It's hard to pick one, isn't it?"
"Yes. I don't know what to do." You responded fretfully.
"I can let one of them out for you to play with them and see how you like them."
"That would be great. Any excuse to play with a cute puppy, honestly."

After much deliberation, you chose with dog you wanted to see and Hoseok let them out into a small enclosure for you to sit in and play with the dog.
"This one's name is Tulip. She's a Maltese."
"She's so pretty." You cooed while petting her, her tail wagging back and forth excitedly.
Hoseok watched fondly as you spent time with multiple dogs, doting on them and using some of the toys provided to play with each one.
Most of the customers coming into the shop were families bringing their young children to adopt their first pet, so it wasn't often Hoseok saw a cute girl like you. He was an animal lover, so seeing you spending time with the dogs was tugging at his heartstrings and making his attraction towards you a little stronger.

"Do you have any dogs?" You asked Hoseok, making conversation since he was stood by watching.
"I do. A Shih Tzu named Mickey."
"How cute." You cooed.
"Yeah." He smiled fondly, pulling out his phone to scroll through his camera roll. "He's old, but my family and I love him so much."
He turned his phone towards you, showing a photo of his beloved family pet.
"Aww!" You gushed. "He's adorable."
"Yeah, he is."

You'd met four or five dogs before finally making your decision. Hoseok was very helpful in assisting in finding things for your new fur baby. He recommended all of the best items, showing you where each one was located in the store. You got your new dog a nice bed, food, treats, a brush, a collar, a leash, toys, tick and flea treatment, and any other necessities you'd need.

You checked out, paying the adoption fee and signing papers for your new furry friend, your purchases in a large plastic bag hung around your forearm.
"I'll probably become a regular here." You told Hoseok with a light chuckle, glancing down at your new dog, which was walking around your feet excitedly.
Hoseok liked the idea of that, the prospect of seeing you again made him feel giddy.
"Thank you for all the help. I really appreciate it." You gave him a small wave and started to walk off.
"Wait. Before you go, here's my number." Hoseok spoke up, sliding a small piece of paper across the counter. "In case you have any questions... or if you wanted to go out sometime."
You grinned, chuckling lightly, glancing down at the slip of paper. "Smooth."
"It's lame, I know. I'm not good at this." He chuckled breathily, a faint blush on his cheeks.
"Well, I'll be keeping this safe and sound." You took the piece of paper. "And I just might call you later, you know, because I might have some questions." You grinned and walked out the door.
