It was prom season and the entire school was buzzing, save for a handful of students who couldn't care less. Conversations could be heard about who was going with who and what color dress would be worn on the big night, where to eat beforehand and where to go afterwards. Guys were going around asking their crushes or girlfriends to prom and making elaborate posters with colorful letters and cheesy poems, making a scene in the halls.
And you? Your boyfriend hadn't asked you to prom, and he probably wouldn't. He was the type of guy who wasn't fond of prom or even the idea of it. He would much rather stay home lying around or working on music and writing lyrics.
As much as you'd like to say it didn't bother you, it did. It was your senior year, the most important and meaningful prom of them all. It was the last one you'd get to attend for the rest of your life and going alone when you had a boyfriend sounded so unappealing.

You entered first period to find Yoongi seated in the back corner of the room, his usual spot, scribbling in his notebook. You headed over and lightly ruffled his dark hair.
"Morning, sleepyhead."
His arm reached out and hooked around your waist, pulling you towards him to give you a hug. He leaned his head on your stomach and hummed a small, "Good morning."
"What are you writing?" You asked, continuing to run your fingers through his hair.
"Lyrics."
"I figured as much." You chortled. "You're seriously so talented. I can't wait until a company decides to pick you up."
"You really think that'll happen?" He asked, pulling away and looking up at you, his eyes glistening hopefully.
"Yes, I do. You're too talented not to be picked up by an entertainment company."
He grinned, showing off his heart-melting gummy smile that always managed to make your stomach flip.
"Yoongi?" You brushed his bangs out of his eyes.
"Mhm?"
"There's something I wanted to talk to you about."
The teacher entered the classroom, causing your attention to stray away from what you were about to say. Yoongi promptly removed his hand from around your waist and you retracted your hand from his hair.
"You should probably take a seat so you don't get in trouble." He advised.
You nodded and sat down in the desk in front of him.
"Hey." He called out quietly.
You partially turned to speak with him.
"You said you wanted to talk about something. We can talk at lunch, okay?"
"Yeah." You smiled softly. "Sounds good."

You began fidgeting with your pencil, thinking about what to say later to Yoongi. You wanted to speak with him about prom since you never talked about it much. He didn't seem to have much to say last time.
"So prom is in a couple months."
"Eh." He shrugged. "I don't really care about prom."
And that was it. That's all that was said about it and you hadn't bothered to bring it up since. Prom was slowly getting closer and you really wanted both you and your boyfriend to go.

You carried your tray of food outside, following Yoongi to a picnic table under a tree.
"So, what is it you wanted to talk about?" He asked, opening up his milk carton.
Your mouth suddenly felt dry and you cleared your throat before speaking. "Prom is coming up. It's in a week."
"Is it? I didn't notice." He murmured, taking a bite of food.
"I'd really like it if you'd go with me. If both of us, you know, go together."
"I'm not really into prom though."
"I know, but we never really talked about it in depth."
"What more is there to talk about?" He asked.
"I don't know..." You trailed off, feeling foolish for even bringing the topic up.
This was going absolutely nowhere.
Yoongi watched you for a moment, blinking a few times as he took in your expression.
"Alright." He turned his attention back to his meal.
It was silent for a few prolonged seconds until you spoke up.
"Look." You sighed, feeing a little frustrated. "Senior prom is important to me and... I don't care if you don't want to go. I won't force you. So I'll just go by myself."
"You're gonna go alone?" He asked with brows pulled together.
"Yeah. You don't want to go and I do. That way we both get what we want." You shrugged, trying not to let your disappointment show through your tone.
"Okay." was all he said.
