The ocean was warm, the sun was shining brightly, and the seafolk were out and about, doing their own respective things. A new day, especially one as perfect as this one, meant a new opportunity to explore, which you loved to do. You swam past a small, colorful coral reef, giggling softly in delight as a school of fish made their way by you. Seeing the sea life so active was always a welcoming sight and a perfect mood-booster. You continued on your merry way, letting the gentle currents pass through your hair and caress your sides; the relaxing sensation soothing you. There were no particular tasks on your mental list of things to do except to enjoy the day and explore new places you might come across.
At some point during your leisurely swim, your surroundings changed and you found yourself in unfamiliar territory. The sunlight didn't reach the area you were traveling through, making it difficult to see properly. It didn't help that there were ribbons of kelp beginning to obstruct your view and they only accumulated as you swam deeper. Despite the struggles, you persevered, pushing past the dense kelp forest in hopes to find an interesting place to explore. You grunted softly when your fin got tangled in a cluster of seaweed, halting your already slow progress. With a sharp yank, you freed yourself and proceeded, swatting away the the pesky plants.
A large black blob swimming just beyond the kelp forest caught your attention as you fought off the leaves and vines swaying in the water. At first, you thought you were seeing things, especially since there were ropes of seaweed partially obstructing your view, but as you continued to watch the open waters, you caught sight of the unidentified object again. Peeking out of an opening in the thick kelp, you got a glimpse at what, or rather who, it was—a sea witch. His white hair swayed in the gentle current and he wore a black turtleneck, eight dark tentacles attached to his lower half.
There was a part of you that was scared, as sea witches were known to be elusive and dangerous—sometimes deceiving, but at the same time you were intrigued. Your gawking gaze stayed trained on him as he swam into the opening of a nearby cavern, disappearing from your sight. Instead of swimming away like you probably should've done, you stayed put and waited, hoping he'd come back out so you could get a better look at him, but he never did. Moving closer would be a bad idea, so you turned around and swam back the way you came.
You continued showing up to the sea witch's cave for the next few days. You couldn't help it, your curiosity had gotten the best of you. You'd sit amongst the kelp forest and wait for him to show up. Some days you'd catch him leaving or returning to his cavern, other days he didn't leave at all, staying cooped up for whatever reason. Today was no different. The mysterious and captivating sea witch swam back to the cave he called home. As you observed him, a leaf of kelp brushed your backside, coaxing a squeak out of you. The witch's head jerked around, his hand raising as a dark red glow emitted from his palm—a sign that he was ready to defend himself. "Who's there?" He spoke out. His voice was deep and threatening, sending shivers down your spine. You tried to hide behind the ribbons of seaweed, hoping they were clustered close enough to cover you.
