You visited him every night when the sun finally fled the horizon and gave way to the glimmering darkness. His name was Namjoon. He was rare, a moonchild, born from the night and unable to roam in the daylight. The sun was harmful to moonchildren, searing them with harsh burns. It was a curse, really. Keeping two people apart like this. One bound to the night, forced to stay indoors until sunset. The other, unable to see the one they cared for until darkness cloaked the sky.
You should've been in bed, but this was the only time you could see Namjoon. Losing sleep in favor of spending a few hours with him was worth it. The location was Namjoon's favorite nature park underneath a cherry blossom tree by the koi pond.
He appeared like a star in the night sky. His gray blue hair stood out against his tanned skin that glowed under the moonlight. A soft, dimpled smile graced his features as he approached you. The moonlight seemed to follow him wherever he went, shining down on him like a silvery beacon, giving him an otherworldly glow. Moonchildren were an unexplained phenomenon, humans that seemed like beings from another universe, blessed with stunning visuals, yet cursed to be separated from the light.
You greeted him with a tight hug, as if you hadn't seen him in ages. "I missed you." You whispered into his shoulder. "I missed you too." A pause. "Even though you saw me last night." You chuckled, pulling back to gaze up at him. "I know, but I still missed you. I miss not getting to see you during the day." "Me too." His bittersweet smile wavered. The two of you sat down on a bench underneath the pale pink petals of the cherry blossoms, his hand finding yours like second nature.
"What do you do during the day?" It was a question you'd been curious about for a while. "I just stay inside until the sun goes down." "You've never invited me over." You teased. "I don't want you to miss out on your life by spending time with me in a dim home shielded by blackout curtains. You deserve to see the sunlight." "Namjoon, I love spending time with you. I want to be with you as often as I can, that's why I meet with you every night. That's why I sacrifice sleep." "Ah. You like spending time with me that much?" His smile was both shy and prideful. "Of course." Your thumb ran across the top of his hand lovingly. "You mean a lot to me. Getting to be around you, even for a few hours, is worth the lost sleep." "I think you're the only person that would do that for me." Namjoon said. "Not many people are willing to sacrifice their sleep for someone like me with so many limits." "Well, they're not the ones for you." You responded simply. "No, they're not." He agreed, his gentle brown eyes full of quiet adoration.
His gaze was focused on your lips, his own parting subconsciously. You started to close the gap, meeting Namjoon in the middle. His arm snaked around your waist the second your lips collided, coaxing you closer to him. One of your hands came up to cup the nape of his neck, letting your finger slide up into his hair.
There were unspoken feelings between you and Namjoon. Not very long after you met him, something started to shift. It was subtle at first, his hand brushing yours, his hugs lasting a little longer than necessary, even the way he looked at you. Neither of you spoke about it—and you didn't have to. There was a silent, mutual, agreement that you felt the same way about each other.
Namjoon gave a tug on your waist, signaling for you to sit on his lap. You obliged, shifting without breaking the kiss. His large palms settled on your waist, traveling up and down your sides, memorizing the shape of you. You braced yourself by placing your hands on his chest, your thumbs caressing the area through his shirt. He hummed lowly, deepening the kiss, but keeping that same gentle and passionate pace, pouring so much emotion into the action it was almost palpable. He pulled back with a small gasp, the tip of his nose brushing yours in a delicate butterfly kiss.
"You're so beautiful." His words were tinged with awe. "So are you." You brought a hand to his cheek and caressed it, feeling his soft skin under the pad of your thumb. "I wanna do something different tonight." He proposed. "Yeah?" "Yeah. I'd like to take you to my place and let you see it. You can even stay the night if you want to." An indescribable rush of excitement blossomed in your chest at this new step. "I'd really like that." "So would I."
You climbed off Namjoon's lap and stood, his fingers lacing with yours, fitting together like puzzle pieces. He gently guided you towards the entrance of the park. "I could make something to eat when we get there. I'm not the best at cooking, but if you're hungry, I can try." "Should I trust you in a kitchen?" You laughed lightly. "Hey. I'm not as bad of a cook as you think." "We'll see." You grinned. "If things go south, there's always late-night delivery." He suggested. "Sounds like a solid plan B." "Let's hope it doesn't come to that. I want to impress you." "You don't have to impress me. Your existence alone does that." He looked at the ground, huffing through a shy grin. "You say that like I'm some special being. I'm just an unlucky guy who's allergic to the sun." "You're not unlucky, you're rare." You corrected. "Yes, you're just a normal guy, but you're also one of the few people who have the blessing of the moon, even if it feels like a curse." "Thank you." "You're welcome." You offered him a warm smile. "Now, let's enjoy the rest of tonight and hope you don't burn your kitchen down trying to impress me." Namjoon laughed. "Sounds good."
