Chapter 24: Rin Uchiha [Shippuden]

Sasuke

Rin and I had returned to the cave. Itachi was still focused on Kabuto. I glanced at Rin, but her eyes were set ahead as we approached them. Itachi lowered his hand from Kabuto's forehead before glancing at us.

"It's time," He confirmed. I nudged Rin's arm, signaling her to calm down when she started bouncing from foot to foot.

"Reanimation Jutsu, release!" A breeze flew past us, and Itachi's body began to glow with a soft light. I stepped closer to Rin when Itachi stumbled, small pieces of him stripped away as he faced us.

"There is still time, but I can feel my mind beginning to fade, " He said as he walked forward, his hand outstretched.

"D-Dad said you had to undo something. You-You had to show me the truth," Rin stammered, and Itachi nodded slightly.

"I must tell you everything before I say goodbye and we part for good, there is no need to lie anymore," He replied.

"That night I left, I did everything Danzo and Tobi told you I did. I'll show you the entire truth," The cave faded away as soon as I met his gaze. I noticed Rin looking around as a terrain I didn't recognize took form.

**Genjutsu**

"I know this place," Rin breathed. I followed her as she walked, ahead of us were two men I recognized: a young Itachi and Shisui.

"It seems we can't prevent the Uchiha coup and if civil war erupts in the Leaf the other villages will invade for sure. True war would break out, but when I tried to stop it Danzo stole my right eye" Shisui explained, turning to show a young Itachi his missing eye.

"That man doesn't trust me, he intends to do whatever he thinks is right to protect the village no matter what it is or how it looks. It's safe to assume he'll come after my left eye which is why I'm giving it to you." Shisui paused as he went to remove his second eye. Rin took a step back, and turned at the same time they both did. Itachi released a kunai in the direction of some bushes and the sound of metal hitting metal echoed through the field.

"Come out," Itachi ordered and a small figure stepped out of the bushes.

"Rin?" Shisui and Itachi spoke at once.

"You weren't there for the night guard switch an-and Itachi was being secretive so..." Rin's sentence faded to mumbling as she nervously tugged at the ends of her hair. Shisui chuckled.

"Some ANBU you are if a child can follow you without detection."

"Rin is no ordinary child," Itachi objected. I glanced at Rin who was frozen to the spot as she stared at her younger self.

"Is-Is Dad really going to start a war?" She stammered, as tears started streaming down her face. Shisui smiled gently and pushed aside Itachi. He knelt to be level with Rin and wiped the tears from her cheeks. Rin stared up at him, and touched the blood on his cheek.

"I can heal you, S-Suki taught me how to..." But Shisui caught her small hand, all while keeping that same smile.

"Save your chakra Princess, I promise this war is none of your concern."

"But-"

"Have Itachi or I ever let anything bad happen to you?" He interrupted.

"No, but I-I could talk to-"
