Chapter 20: Rin Uchiha [Shippuden]

Kakashi

We had sealed all but one of the swordsmen in Rin's absence. Now there was the white zetsu problem that we could have really used one of Rin's long-range jutsu for. Although, we had gotten a Naruto clone as her substitution who was more than enough help. The barrage of zetsu finally seemed to be slowing down but my attention was on Naruto. He had become strangely still as he stared into the empty space before him, his hand outstretched.

"Naruto, what is wrong?" Lee asked. Naruto slowly switched his gaze to his hand.

"Naruto!" I called but he didn't look up and that was enough for me to approach him.

"Is it Rin?" I asked.

"I-I can't feel our connection" He replied slowly, and I felt my stomach sink.

"What?"

"Madara, he-he disappeared with her. He used that thing that Rin always uses, the shadow thing"

"That shadow transportation jutsu" I replied, and he nodded as he looked at me.

"Madara took Rin, and as soon as he took her through our connection was cut off" He explained.

"Madara took Rin" I breathed.

"She used her new jutsu, and..."

"He survived the Kurodori?" I could hear the disbelief in my own voice and Naruto nodded.

"It destroyed the other guy but Madara is different, he can use dark chakra just like Rin. It threw her off" He explained. I knew he was right. Dark chakra was Rin's ace, it was the one thing she could do that no one else could. Her whole plan on defeating Madara relied on him not being able to use dark chakra.

"If Madara has had dark chakra this whole time then why keep Rin alive?" Gai questioned.

"Well, it wasn't that guy in the mask. This guy was already dead and he didn't have the mask."

"Wait, so Rin fought the real Madara Uchiha?" I asked, and he nodded.

"Then who the hell is the guy in the mask?" Gai asked. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest, my mind swirling as I tried to figure out my next move.

"We need to contact HQ, I need to get out there and-"

"Rin gave me a message for you" Naruto interrupted, and I stopped.

"She wanted me to tell you that she would be okay and to not let you go after her."

"Naruto..."

"It was her last request," Naruto argued.

"Why does she always try to do everything alone" I should have gone, she wanted me there. She was scared, and I just let her go.

"Kakashi" Gai's voice broke through my thoughts.

"You know she does not want to do this alone, she wants to keep you safe."

"He's right Kakashi-Sensei" Naruto agreed.

"And you know her better than anyone, she'll come back to us" He added. I released a slow breath and lifted the executioner's blade.

"She'll come back" I repeated. I kept repeating it in my head as I readied to face the next barrage of white Zetsu. I had to trust that HQ was already devising a plan, and I still had my division to lead. She had told me she would come back to me, and I always believed in Rin's strength. So, I couldn't start doubting her now.
