Jace was pleading with a man who looked about the same age as him, Clary strapped to a chair with a knife at her neck.

"Don't touch her, please, do anything you want to me," begged Jace. He was on his knees. Kit saw how much he loved Clary. He felt Ty squeeze his hand lightly and supressed a smile. "Please, Jonathan."

There were two Jaces now?

"Okay," Jonathan said.

"Really? That was—"

"Step into the Malachi Configuration there," said Jonathan. He looked disturbingly alike compared to Jace. Tall, muscled, blond hair, blue eyes—like himself.

"Why should I trust you?" said Jace.

"You have no choice," Jonathan snarled, tightening the dagger on Clary's throat. A shallow cut appeared, blood trickling painfully slowly down onto her shirt. "Now get in."

Jace held his hands up and stepped inside, and Kit knew that Jace knew fully well that he was trapped.

Jonathan smiled. It was frightening and so full of vengeance, Ty's earlier expression looked terribly small. Kit and Ty hid behind a drawer and watched as Jonathan flung a seraph blade with a murderous precision, sealing the Malachi Configuration.

The blazing lines of angelic power sealed Jace up. "Now let her go!"

Clary looked too stunned to say anything, but managed a "Jace, no". She seemed like she was struggling. At what, Kit didn't know.

Jonathan laughed. Ty was watching silently beside Kit. "You really are gullible, Herondale. You really thought I was going to let her go? No. I'm going to torture her, like Valentine tortured me.

He burned my dad in front of me, then he burned me. I watched my dad die. And now, she will watch who she loves most die. You Morgensterns deserve this."

He spat out the words like it tasted disgusting. Then, he snapped his fingers and Clary seemed to recover from her earlier daze, her face suddenly taking on a horrified expression.

"Jace! What are you doing in there?"

Kit noticed Jace's ring was missing.

"Pity that Lost Herondale never really got to know his cousin." Jonathan laughed even harder.

Jace clenched his fists. "And after you torture and kill me, then what? You kill Clary? You were dead. How are you alive and kicking still?"

"Have you ever heard of the Mundane saying," Jonathan Wayland said, "'Curiosity killed the cat'? Meow, Herondale, meow."

"NO," Jace yelled. "No!"

Jonathan sliced a small cut at Clary's throat. "Don't make me deepen this cut."

Jace's facial muscles worked. "Meo—meow. Meow."

"Jace, no." Tears were streaming down Clary's face, hot and furious. "Jonathan please—"

"Oh shush, Fairchild. You're ruining the fun." Jonathan looked pleased with himself. It really annoyed Kit. And annoyed Herondales weren't fun to mess with.

With a scream, he leapt out from his hiding place.

"Kit!" yelled Ty, leaping out after him. "Kit, what the hell?"

"Your friend is right," said Jace. "KIT, WHAT THE GODAMM HELL IN EDOM ARE YOU DOING HERE?"

"Oh joy," Jonathan said gleefully. "More mini-Jaces to torture."

"Oh, I'm afraid you're mistaken, Jonathan Wayland. I'm not here for you."

Ty and Kit exchanged glances. They knew exactly what to do. Ty tossed a dagger to Kit, and Kit threw it at Jonathan. Jonathan ducked and the dagger missed him by a whole inch. Jonathan roared.

"Pathetic, Herondale. Was that your best?"

"I wasn't aiming for you," Kit said calmly. "Or you would've been dead on the floor by now."

"Ah, well done Kit. Bragging goes a long way." Jace beamed proudly before he straightened up and collected himself. "Oops."

"As I was saying," continued Kit, "I was aiming for the ring Jace had so carefully put on that shelf for you. Now, may I introduce, Magnus!"

Magnus stepped out gracefully and gave a little bow, completely ignoring the shocked looks on Jace, Clary and Jonathan's faces. "Thank you, Kit."

Ty smiled warmly at the warlock.

"Jonathan Wayland," Magnus said. "I'm now going to reverse the spell. Enjoy the journey back to Edom."
