He treaded across the landscape, everyone else behind him. Kit liked this feeling. The feeling of being important and mattering to people. He hadn't felt it in a long time. Perhaps since he was nine.

No. It wasn't that long ago, because Ty made him feel important. Ty and Livvy made feel as if he were part of them. In fact, Ty made him feel things unspeakable and unimaginable every time he looked at Kit.

And Kit wanted to feel all that again. Just then, Magnus started to stumble, and Alec hurriedly caught him. "Magnus, what's wrong?"

"As—Asmodeus," Magnus stuttered. "He can feel me. He's weakening my magic. I don't think I can hold much longer."

"Hold?" Kit didn't understand.

"He's been protecting us from the dark magic that Asmodeus is radiating." Alec glanced up, worry written all over his face, and then looked back down at his husband. "Without him, we'd probably all be dead now."

Kit was dismayed. How were they going to save Ty if they were a heap of bones? Then Kit realised joyfully that Magnus wasn't the only one with magic.

"Magnus," said Kit. "Take a break. I'll protect us."

"No," Magnus said weakly. "It's too tiring, and you haven't even managed to control your magic fully yet." He coughed. "I'll be fine."

"You literally just said you didn't think you could hold any longer," said Kit. "Let me do it."

Without waiting for Magnus to rebuke, he shot forth a wave of golden light from his hands, creating a golden bubble around them and breaking Magnus' magic that he hadn't seen because it was too dark against the dim backdrop of Edom. Magnus tripped over his own feet and Alec held him tighter, soothing him gently and supporting him.

Their little procession continued, until they reached the foot of a hill-like mound after what seemed like an eternity—which was a lot of time to be spending in Edom—and Kit finally understood why Magnus had been unwilling to let him take over.

To protect their group was both magical and exhausting at the same time, and Kit wondered how. But that didn't matter anymore, for they had to scale this humongous, frightening and ginormous bump if they wanted to reach Ty. And Kit wasn't sure how they were going to make it, because his energy was dwindling and he felt like he was going to collapse any moment soon.

Luckily, unlike Magnus, he wasn't being chased after by a prince of Hell, but he was younger and he was tired out as heck. It hurt with each step he took closer to the mound for the magic was stronger, and though he didn't mind the physical pain that came with the bursts of light shooting from his palms, the amount of energy it took to generate those golden waves was astounding.

But for Ty, he was willing, though he didn't know how much further they could go. It was tough supporting himself alone, let alone the entire group.

Kit pushed forward, groaning with every footprint he made, and the bubble was wavering and flickering violently. His hands shook with the very effort of it all, and Magnus broke out of Alec's grasp to move next to Kit.

What happened next Kit's mind couldn't process fully, but he did know that Magnus had gently placed his hand on Kit's shoulder and Kit had seemed to be rejuvenated. He could feel Magnus' magic flow through him, mixing with his own into some magic concoction that was strong and powerful.

The bubble turned murky, no longer Kit's singular efforts, but the joined powers of two people who had once been broken and shattered, but had found their homes in the strongest Shadowhunters they knew. Kit had long accepted the fact that he was in love with Ty and he was homosexual. And he loved every moment of it.

Now, they were going to find Kit's home. The boy who had pressed a knife to Kit's throat and Kit's only thought had been 'beautiful'. The arc was now gold and blue, waves that joined and separated at random, blending together from Kit's hands steadily.

He looked at Magnus and offered him the tiniest of smiles. Magnus smiled, but in a fatherly manner, back. He pushed into Kit further, scaling the mountain, as the others followed silently, though Kit knew Alec was right behind them, ready to catch Magnus if he fell.

I love you, Tiberius, he thought, realising he hadn't spent much time with Ty when they were together. It was only missions and danger and saving other people. He made a mental note to go watch a movie with Ty when after this was over. If Ty was willing to reconcile with him and forgive him for the crap he had done.

When they saved Ty from Magnus' bitch of a father.

"Kit?"

Magnus was tapping his arm.

"Yeah?"

"We're here, Kit," said Magnus. "We've reached Asmodeus' lair, if you would call it that."

"Do—do we just storm in and demand Ty?"

Magnus shook his head, not once removing his hand from Kit's shoulder. "Asmodeus would kill us all. No. We have to offer something in exchange. And it isn't that simple—Asmodeus loves playing games."

Kit breathed in deeply. "I'll try—Magnus."

"Kit?"

"I see him."
