In his confused and panicked state, Zhan Yao even temporarily forgot that no sound would be heard even if he talked as he tried to soothe Yutong's anger.

Unfortunately, this only added to Bai Yutong's anger.

The lasting silence between the two only increased Zhan Yao's nervousness. He really wished he could break it, but he couldn't. His only option was to wait for Yutong to speak or do something.

Bai Yutong's eyes locked with the ones of the man beneath him - his face completely unreadable. But in truth he was equally confused by his own action. His anger left as quickly as it came, leaving him behind in his own confusion.

He had pushed Zhan Yao down in the spur of the moment - but what for? And what to do now? Blame it on his tired brain or the maddening silence that his mind temporarily stopped functioning properly.

His head hurt. And he was tired - tired of this whole damned situation.

His facade he stubbornly held on to for the past weeks crumbled and he slowly let himself sink on top of Zhan Yao - mindful not to crush him underneath his own weight.

"Cat..."

Bai Yutong whispered desperately against Zhan Yao's shoulder - like a child who seeked comfort.

Zhan Yao's heart sunk, his body stiffened.

Yutong had always tried to act strong and confident in front of him, needlessly tiring himself out. Now he finally seemed to reach his limits.

In an attempt to comfort - to ease Yutong's pain of which he was the cause - he circled his arms around him to pull him into an embrace. Slowly and gently his fingers stroked through his hair which made Yutong nuzzle even closer and sigh contently at the comforting gesture.

He hadn't felt this relaxed for weeks. Finally his worn out body and mind gave in and he fell into deep slumber.

Zhan Yao was at a loss, doubting his decision once again. He never would have imagined for Yutong to behave like this. And even though he definetely enjoyed the closeness and spoiled behaviour of his mouse, the heavy concern that was linked to his joy outweighed it.

He had to hurry. It became harder and harder to face Yutong with every visit.

Zhan Yao cursed in his mind. All of this had been a stupid idea. And why could he not just have told Yutong about everything?

Because he wanted to protect him, obviously.

But was this really the right way to approach the situation?

He never had felt this unsure about his own decision. Whenever he had a hard time Yutong had always been there to support him.

Now there was no way for him to discuss his worries with him, though, since it more or less concerned the man in question.

A soundless sigh left his lips as he unconsciously drew small patterns on Yutong's broad back - lost in his thoughts.

The two of them stayed in this position for a long time and soon Zhan Yao's body felt a little uncomfortable due to the heavy weight on top of him.

But he didn't want to disturb Yutong in his rest.

However, he was a little bit worried about the guards. After all, Yutong had stayed a long time with him already - way longer than usually.

He took a glance at the clock at the opposite wall, stretching his neck in an uncomfortable way to do so since he tried to minimize all of his movements in order to let Yutong sleep peacefully.
