The cell phone that was ringing until just then was not the one he called Bai Yutong with.
Panic flooded his whole body and Bai Yutong was already about to sprint right in but a hand stopped him. He was ready to punch whoever it was right in the face if he didn't let go of him that instant. His murderous gaze hit the calm eyes of Zhao Jue. Bai Yutong was ready to yell at him when he noticed something else in the usually calm and bemused expression of the man who stopped him. Concern.
Bai Yutong's eyebrows shot up in surprise. Not for the first time, he wondered just what type of relationship he had with Zhan Yao. But right now was not the time to think about that.
He turned around to his team who was readily waiting for his commands and called out to Zhan Yao over the phone simultaneously.
"Zhan Yao! Zhan Yao, can you hear me? What's wrong?"
But he didn't get a reply. He could barely hear a loud thud and then the call got disconnected. He could feel his whole body turn cold.
Meanwhile, the SCI team grew more and more restless. They never saw this kind of expression on their fearless leader's face. Ma Han and Zhao Fu exchanged a worried glance.
Bai Yutong desperately tried to keep his calm but his unconscious kept on flooding him with the worst case scenarios. Ultimately, he snapped.
"F*CK!!!"
His scream startled every police officer around them and his whole team flinched collectively. Even Zhao Jue took a surprised step back at the furious outburst of Bai Yutong. Just in time so the cell phone barely missed his head when it was brutally smashed against the wall next to him and disintegrated in every possible seperate part. They didn't need Jiang Ling to know that the device would never be able to be used again.
"The call got disconnected. We don't know the exact location where Zhan Yao was hiding and he was probably already taken somewhere else as well. Professor Zhan's safety and rescue is top priority! Everything else comes after that. Secure the whole area and make sure nobody escapes or takes Zhan Yao somewhere else. Ma Han, get ready to back us up through sniping. Zhao Fu, Wang Shao, each of you will lead a team of officers and search the building. Jiang Ling, you track the last signal of the phone Zhan Yao called us with and keep me updated. Bai Chi just stay around and help out with anything needed. Also, get my sim-card and put it in a new phone in case Zhan Yao or the kidnappers might call me. My battery died."
It was like his sudden outburst of rage had never happened. Bai Yutong behaved like any other time at any other mission. Zhao Jue looked at the only evidence which proved the fit of anger to be reality. The pitiful remains of the cellphone layed on the ground and one could barely recognize what it had once been. There was a visible dent in the wall where the phone hit it. He couldn't help but be impressed by Bai Yutong's strenght.
"I'll repeat it once more: Zhan Yao's safety is top priority! Everyone wear your ear-pieces and be careful. Stay safe, nobody dies under my supervision."
Bai Yutong quickly ended the briefing and turned around to check on his bullet-proof vest. He then picked up his gun and turned towards Zhao Jue.
"You stay with Jiang Ling and wait here in case they make demands and want to talk to you. Don't do anything stupid."
Without waiting for a reply he quickly passed him and went straight into the building.
However, he could still hear Zhao Jue calling out to him.
"Don't act too rashly. Zhan Yao will be sad if you get hurt."
Such an irritating man!

Bai Yutong's body was literally burning. He could feel the sweat run down his body as he knocked down a bulky guy who was stupid enough to try and stop him. The worry for his cat made his blood boil and he gave the poor guy on the ground a frustrated kick. Which was absolutely unneccessary. He already lost consciousness with Bai Yutong's first hit.
It's been ten minutes since his call with Zhan Yao had been disconnected. Bai Yutong grew more restless by each minute - each second - he couldn't find him.
"Jiang Ling."
The poor hacker sighed inwardly. She really didn't want to put up with her leader's mood right now. She didn't even want to be anywhere near him right now. Which she wasn't physically, but she still had to constantly be faced with her leader's rapidly worsening mood.
"Sir, if there is any new information, I'll tell you right away."
She assured him for what felt like the hundredth time already. She understood his feelings but she was beginning to lose her nerves because of him. From the side, Zhao Jue gave her what could be interpreted as a comforting smile.
Jiang Ling felt really uncomfortable to have him around. She didn't understand the man's intentions. Even more - who would actually like to stand this close to a serial killer? She tried her best to ignore him.
She really had it worst in this mission - well, not as bad as Zhan Yao. But still, in her opinion, she definetely deserved a huge bonus and at least an extra three days off for what she had to go through right now.

Zhan Yao barely noticed how he was thrown over a shoulder and carried like a sack of potatoes. He felt dizzy and his vision was blurry - at least that's when he actually did see anything. Most of the time it was just black all around him. He didn't notice the noise around him either.
It felt like he was underwater. Everything seemed so far away.
He only closed his eyes for what seemed like a few seconds but it must have been longer. He wasn't being carried anymore but instead was put down.
He tried to concentrate on his surroundings. He believed to be next to a car. It was black.
The man who must have carried him here held him thightly at his shoulders. His grip was too hard and especially for Zhan Yao - who dislikes physical contact - the touch was extremely uncomfortable. He would have liked to get rid of those disturbing hands but right now they were the only thing that kept him standing. If the man in front of him let go, Zhan Yao wouldn't have the strenght to support his own body and hit the ground. And he wasn't exactly eager for that kind of encounter.
Even if he wasn't in such bad condition right now, he doubted that he would actually be able to get rid of his opponent anyway.
He was thrown out of his thoughts when the car door next to him was opened. The noise was suddenly too loud and caused a throbbing pain to shoot through his head. Little black dots danced in front of his eyes and he shook his head in an attempt to get rid of them. He groaned.
Was it really neccessary to hit him on the head his hard? With his weak physique he wouldn't have been able to put up much of a fight anyway. Zhan Yao cursed under his breath.
"Hey, you awake now? Get in the car, I don' wanna carry ya forever, ya'know?"
The man shook him which didn't exactly help to drive away the little black dots.
Zhan Yao's thoughts raced. They wanted to escape. And they wanted to take Zhan Yao with him - obviously. He makes a good hostage after all.
He had to come up with a plan as soon as possible. Would he be able to hypnotize the guy in his currenet condition? And even if he did manage to do it, there should be more than just this one.
He made eye-contact.
All or nothing. He didn't have much possibilities to choose from anyway. Even if Zhan Yao was still feeling dizzy and had problems concentrating, he at least had to try - and if possible succeed - to escape.
Oh man, how he wished so much to be on vacation with his mouse already.
