Chapter 13: (Y/n) vs Katsuki

(Y/n) paced up and down the hall as she waited for her turn to walk onstage and get her ass kicked.

"(Y/n)."

She was too busy pacing to notice someone call her name. They tried again.

"(Y/n)."

A hand snapped her out of her deep thoughts.

"Ah, Shoto! You scared me," (Y/n) chuckled, rubbing the back of her neck in embarrassment.

"I just wanted to say... good luck, and try not to get hurt."

She scoffed.

"That might be a problem seeing as I'm going up against Katsuki. You saw how he didn't hold back against Uraraka. He went all out. I think he'll do the same for me."

"Well... do your best. I believe in you."

Shoto smiled, a rare thing to see from him nowadays.

It's been so long since I've seen him smile, (Y/n) thought happily. There was something she needed to tell him though.

"Shoto... your dad talked to me earlier, and..."

His smile fell into a frown, almost a grimace.

"What did that bastard say?"

"H-he said that we would work well together. Y'know, combining our quirks." (Y/n) fidgeted nervously. She had never seen Shoto look so angry.

"Shoto, I think he was suggesting marriage," (Y/n) said. "But I'm not ready for that, not for a long while! And I'm not sure I'd like to have an arranged marriage. I'd like to marry someone I really like. And someone who really likes me."

Shoto was quiet.

"(Y/N)... do you like me?"

"Of course I do! And there's nothing you can do to change that."

(Y/n) pulled him into a hug and sighed. Present Mic's voice echoed through the loudspeakers, signaling the next round. (Y/n) backed away and jogged down the hall. She turned and smiled at Shoto.

"See you later."

Shoto stood there for a while, processing the conversation.

She said she liked me... but I don't think it was the way I like her...

His hand clenched into a fist.

I'll make sure that bastard doesn't ruin your life (Y/n)... not now, and not ever...

(Y/n) stumbled nervously up to the stage. Her knees were weak, arms were heavy... you all know the rest.

She shook off her worry and stood proudly as Present Mic introduced the round.

"And we're back! This is the second to last round of this event, ladies and gentlemen, so  let's get ready for an awesome fight!"

"In this corner, we have the elegant (Y/n) back from her other fights with less than a few scratches! But up against her challenger, will she be so lucky? Of course we're talking about the vicious Katsuki Bakugo! Blasting the competition out of the park... literally! Will he go all out like last time with Uraraka? Or will he take it easy this time? Watch to find out folks!"

"Like hell I will!" Katsuki crowed.

"Katsuki!" (Y/n) shouted. His triumphant grin fell into a serious expression.

"Thank you."

She smiled, and fell into a natural fighting stance.

Arms up, feet planted, and be ready. I hope this works...

"Start!"

(Y/n) shot towards Katsuki like a bullet, her wings flapping fiercely. He let off and explosion, forcing (Y/n) to change course as she was a few feet away. She used the smoke to her advantage.

She darted left as the explosion went off. She encircled the smoke, twisting it like a cyclone around Katsuki.

He let off a few more explosions, trying to shake (Y/n) off her course. She pressed forward, the explosions only adding more dust to the smokescreen.

"That's it," (Y/n) whispered. The explosions stopped, and (Y/n) narrowed her eyes.

Now!

She darted downward, and propelled herself through the smokescreen, catching Katsuki by surprise. She snatched the collar of his Sports Festival jersey and yanked him upwards. He struggled as (Y/n) threw him to the sky, her muscles screaming in protest.

She soared up, fist aiming to hit his jaw. This move would have definitely knocked him out.

If he hadn't reacted in time.

And explosion greeted (Y/n)'s face, momentarily blinding her.

A moment was all it took.

Katsuki propelled himself through the air around (Y/n). Time seemed to slow as she passed right by him and an explosion started heating up in his palm.

The force of the blast hit (Y/n) in the side. Her uniform was singed, and her skin felt like it too. (Y/n) careened downwards, the ground rushing to greet her. She was almost out of bounds.

Quickly changing course in the air, she dove sideways further within the bounds. Soaring up to meet Katsuki, (Y/n) grinned. He kept airborne by letting off explosions every so often.

She flew upwards and let a flurry of feathers whistled through the air down below.

If this works, I could render him unconscious!

What (Y/n) didn't think of was Katsuki repelling the projectiles back at her with an explosion.

"Agh!" she cried out. Her feathers cut through her uniform, slicing her skin as well. The metal fell to the ground of the stage, clattering loudly.

This went on for what seemed like hours, when in reality it was only a few minutes, maybe ten. Everyone was tense, waiting to see what would come next.

Katsuki had a few cuts and slashes from the few times (Y/n)'s feathers had nicked him, but  other than that, he seemed unharmed but tired.

(Y/n) on the other hand, was battered and bruised. Her skin was burnt in a few places from some unavoidable close range attacks, and her wings were faltering. The more feathers she threw, the more unstable her wings became. Soon, she would crash to the ground.

I have to end this, now!

She spiraled recklessly, arm pulled back to sock Katsuki as hard as she could.

Explosions erupted around her, tossing her like a ragdoll back and forth. Her vision darkened and she struggled to stay conscious.

She shot her last few feathers before her wings gave out.

She plummeted downward, the last thing she remembered was someone calling her name and someone catching her before she hit the ground.

Heyyyyyyyy guys! So sorry for the small hiatus. I told myself I'd get to this chapter eventually, but I kept putting it aside. But I'm back!
