"Hey (Y/n)!" Nice to see you again!"

"Uwako! Nice to see you too!" (Y/n) grinned at the boy. He held an empty platter in his hand. His smile faltered when he spotted Bakugo glaring at him behind (Y/n).

"Oh... and who is this?" his smile seemed more forced.

"This is Bakugo, my classmate! We've also been friends since middle school," (Y/n) elbowed him gently.

"Well then... I'll show you to your table..."

"Thanks!"

"Do you remember that time in 6th grade? When I got in trouble for punching you?" (Y/n) grinned.

"That was one damn time! You don't have to bring it up!" he snarled over his menu.

"That was the first time we met. I thought you were just another dumbass bully."

"You say one more word and I swear I'll make sure it's your last."

"I didn't mean it in a bad way, Bakugo," (Y/n) rolled her eyes. "I thought you were just another shallow bully trying to make himself feel better about himself. But that wasn't it."

"What the fuck are you saying?"

"I'm saying that you're really determined. You're smart, tough, and you always give it your all. I saw that once I got past your crappy attitude." (Y/n) smiled.

"What's with all the backhanded compliments?! Bakugo barked.

"So you can dish it out, but you can't handle it yourself?" (Y/n) teased and tapped him on his nose.

"Boop!"

Bakugo's face lit up a bright red. Before he could react, Uwako swooped in, notepad at the ready.

"Are you two ready to order?" he said, grinning brightly at (Y/n).

"Yeah. Took ya long enough." Bakugo sneered. (Y/n) puffed out her cheeks and glared angrily at him.

Why was he being ruder than normal?

They finished up their orders and (Y/n) sipped on her drink.

"He gave you the coupons last time you were here?"

"Uh, yeah? Why does it matter?" (Y/n) asked defensively.

"Hmph."

(Y/n) stared, confused by Bakugo's actions.

Through middle school, he constantly berated (Y/n) with stinging words and harsh insults. Now, once (Y/n) got to know him better, he seemed to bite his tongue, keeping most of the comments in. She also pretended not to notice how he had subtly acknowledged her likes and places to hang out when she was feeling particularly stressed.

I was almost as if... he cared...

"Oi, (Y/n)! Quit staring off into space!"

He snapped his fingers in front of her face and she blinked, interrupting her train of thought. She noticed her plate of food set down in front of her, still steaming.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to," she apologized.

"What's up with your scar?" Bakugo asked bluntly, spearing his spicy chicken with a fork. "You've always been so secretive."

"Well, some things are hard to talk about. I don't have to tell my life story to everyone I meet," (Y/n) replied defensively. He quirked an eyebrow at her sharp answer. (Y/n) sighed.

"When I was about 5 or so, my dad introduced me to Shoto," (Y/n) began. "He was a happy, energetic, and bubbly kid, and we would hang out together. After a few years of being friends, I couldn't go spend time with him anymore. I would ask my dad, but he would brush it off and send me off to do something else."
