Freya's POV

The white wizard turned out to be Gandalf, he assures Treebeard we meant no harm. Then left us in his care as he waited for the others. He said we'd be staying with Treebeard until Rohan is freed of Saruman's control. Right now Merry and Pippin are riding one shoulder. While I ride to other as Treebeard sings walking through the forest.

"Oh rowan mine I saw you shine upon a summer's day. Upon your head how golden-red the crown you bore aloft" he finishes. Merry yawns and asks him how much further. "Don't be hasty. You might call it far perhaps. My home lies deep in the forest near the roots of the mountain. I told Gandalf I would keep you three safe and, safe is where I'll keep you. I believe you will enjoy this next one. It is one of my own compositions. Right, ahem" he tells us and then starts to sing a new song.

"He's not that bad Merry, just enjoy the ride" I tell him.

"Fine, while we're up here we can discuss your feelings for Gimli" he tells me smirking.

"What? I don't have... Who said I have feelings for Gimli?" I ask him trying not to blush.

"It's so obvious you were jealous of the attention he was giving Lady Galadriel" Pippin tells me.

"So tell us, how long have you liked him?" Merry asks.

"If you must know, I think I discovered my feelings in Moria" I tell them.

"Why not tell him?" they ask me.

"He is a warrior. He'd never fall for a simple healer" I tell them sadly.

"But he has" Merry states.

"It's clear, he has feelings for you" Pippin agrees.

"How so?" I ask them.

"He protected you from those crow and he carried you through Moria after you fell unconscious" Merry explains.

"I didn't know that" I tell them blushing.

"He likes you Freya" Pippin says smiling.

"I think you two need to talk when we reunite with the others" Merry tells me.

"I'll think about it" I tell them. They soon fall asleep due to Treebeard's song. We reach his home and he looks to see them asleep. He picks them up gently and lays them on the soft grass. He places me in between them as I yawn.

"Sleep little Shirelings. Heed no nightly noise. Sleep 'til morning light" he tells us as I curl up. "I have business in the forest. There are many to call. Many that must come. The shadow lies on Fangorn. The withering of all woods is drawing near. The trees have grown wild and dangerous. Anger festers in their hearts. They will harm you if they can. There are too few of us now. Too few of us left to manage them. But you shall be safe until morning as they to need sleep" he assures me. I smile and fall asleep.

(Next morning)

I was having a lovely dream about having a family one day when I wake up to my cousins shouting at each other. About who is suppose to be taller. "What are you two arguing about now?" I demand as I rub sleep from my eyes.

"I'm the suppose to be the taller one right Freya?" Merry asks me.

"Usually" I say absentmindedly. Merry grabs the stone bowl and drinks it. "Don't drink that!" I snap. "You don't know what it is" I tell him. They ignore me fighting over it. Suddenly they trip over some tree roots and they start to close in around them. "Merry, Pippin!" I shout running over. "Let them go! Treebeard, help!" I shout as I try to free my cousins.

"Away with you. You should not be waking. Eat earth. Dig deep. Drink water. Go to sleep. Away with you" Treebeard tells the tree. It releases my cousins and I pull them away from it. "Come, the forest is waking up. It isn't safe" he tells us. He kneels down holding his hands out to us. I climb on one and the boys climb onto the other. Treebeard raises as we hold on, then places us on his shoulders.

(Later on the same day)

"The trees have grown wild and dangerous. Anger festers in their hearts. Black are their thoughts. Strong is their hate. They will harm you if they can. There are too few of us now, too few of us Ents left to manage them" Treebeard explains.

"Why are there so few of you?" I ask him.

"Are there no ent children?" Pippin asks.

"There have been no Entings for a terrible long count of years" Treebeard answers.

"Why is that?" Merry asks him.

"We lost the Entwives" Treebeard replies.

"I'm sorry, how did they die?" Pippin asks and I shoot him a glare.

"Die, no. We lost them. And now we cannot find them. I don't suppose you've seen Entwives in the Shire?" he asks us.

"Can't say that I have. You Pip? Freya?" Merry asks us.

"What do they look like?" Pippin asks Treebeard.

"I don't remember, now" he answers.

"I promise when this is over, we will find the entwives" I tell him. He gives me a small smile. He then continues to walk as we sit safely on his shoulders. Out of reach of any danger that lays below. I notice smoke in the distance and as do the other two.

"Look! There's smoke to the south!" Pippin shouts.

"There is always smoke rising up from Isengard these days" Treebeard tells us.

"Isengard?" Merry and I ask him looking at the smoke.

"There was a time, when Saruman would walk in my woods, but now, he has a mind of metal and wheels. He no longer cares for growing things" he explains. Us hobbits climb higher and see an army.

"What is that?" I ask Treebeard.

"It's Saruman's army! The war has started" he answers. I look up at the other two. I pray Frodo, Gimli and the others are alright. I pray we reunite with them soon.
